Said nobody ever 😆

@Burnley123 Literally had someone argue that today, in their quest for politically correct brownie points. Unfortunately, his stance doesn't involve looking at evidence, but rather trying to find fascists, even if it means lying about them, so he can virtue against them.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile Right and he hit you.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 nope, he was hidden behind his computer screen. He only encourages other people to be violent.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile still not believing this but best of luck.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Why not? never heard of the terms "smash the fash?" or "words are violence"?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile Your quote is a ridiculous caricature of left wing people coming straight out of YouTube. It's on obvious strawman.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 If you think I'm a liar, go for it.But when you have one group that won't "give a platform to fascists" aka "wont listen to people with other opinions", create an echo chamber where they only talk to other people that inflate their politically correct ego, and then share articles that support the idea that their enemies are evil, without taking a minute to share it, and think such people deserve violence - you end up with retards such as this guy.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile I agree with not giving a platform to fascists but I also think that regular right-wing people are not fascists, just badly misguided. This is a view which is typical on the left. Hope that helps.

Also, I've been blocked by most of the right wing people on here becauase they don't like my politics.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Not giving a platform to fascists is a contradiction. How can you simultaneously oppose fascism and also deny the right of who you deem a "fascist" to speak? You say "regular right wing people are not fascist" well, who gets to set the definitions, huh? I dislike Anjem Choudary, but he can say what he likes, for example.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile We are onto a different question now but I'm fine to explain my views.

Fascists believe in the abolition of democracy but are happy to game the system for their own objectives. In addition, denying a platform to people is not about denying the right to legal free speech but about cultural contesting political space. Nobody has the god given right to a platform more than they have a right to a megaphone or a regular newspaper column.

Defending the right of fascists to have a platform on 'free speech' grounds legitimises their views by defining them as victims and depicting their critics as worse.
@Burnley123 I'll bet a lot of your blockers don't like you mouthing off about their country either
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP tbf I'm trying to do that less now. It's bad form on my part but not something I would block for. Plenty of people comment on British politics and say things I disagree with. It's not a sufficient grounds for blocking, if you genuinely support free speech.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 And you make the assumption that people don't simply call whoever they disagree with a 'fascist'. And if we deplatform "fascists", well why not deplatform "communists", and what about vegans? Once you say one group can be censored, you have no grounds to stop anyone else from being silenced.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile I have specific reasons for denying fascists a platform and I stand by them. You can agree or disagree but I don't think anti democratic peopke should be allowed full access to democratic institutions. Though I do support their legal right to free speech.

Your argument is like saying banning heroin is the same as banning coffee. It's a slippery slope, right?
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 If you don't think they should access these institutions, then by your logic you should not enter institutions. And again, then how about we also deny communists a democratic platform?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile Communists are not against democracy but in favour of a different form of democracy.

This is not about banning people I disagree with. I have been very specific in my reasons, which you seem to ignore.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Oh, I'm not ignoring your logic, but I am ignoring the fallacy of selectively enforcing it. If anything, you are ignoring my incredibly crystal clear logic. No one is the perfect arbiter of morality that gets to decide who can and can't vote. Seems you chose to ignore this pretty straight forward notion. What about denying democratic measures to islamic fascists?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile If I want to speak on TV, I'd likely be denied a platform by their choice.

News shows, universities and book publishers make political choices every day on who to give a platform to. This is not about legal free speech but who is allowed a megaphone. I think, where possible, that megaphone should be denied to fascists.

I've given specific reasons why and I'd be against de platforming people like say Jordan Peterson or Ben Shapiro.

Its not a logical fallacy, just an argument you disagree with.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Never said anything about "legal free speech". Nor have I mentioned peterson or shapiro. You seem to be arguing with yourself. You go and enjoy being a moral arbiter and I'll enjoy letting people have their opinions. Goodbye :)
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile I talked about it to clarify my position. I've said all I can here but mind how you go.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 You are bringing up things that I do not mention and ignore what I say and then tell me I'm choosing to ignore your argument. You are pretty childish for someone of your age. Grow up.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile pfff. I dealt with your points directly and - as response to your questions - clarified my position using extra detail.

Sorry that this actually existing perdon has different arguments to the shite presented in the right wing youtube videos you watch. Oh well. 😆
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Argument from assumption xD Funny how someone that hates the idiocy of both the far left and far right thinking they should dictate to everyone else just watches "right wing" youtube videos. xD Despite your idiocy, I'm not going to make assumptions about you xD
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@cunningcrocodile Riiight. You made assumptions all over the thread. Implied I was a communist, against free speech...

You arguments are cliche and straight out of YouTube. I know plenty of leftists but not any who behave in the way you assume leftists behave.
cunningcrocodile · 31-35, F
@Burnley123 Nope, never said you were a communist, or against free speech. Yet you flat out claim I must watch right wing youtube videos. And no, it's not an assumption. His name is Lon Fisher and he routinely uses his Facebook account to call for violence against "fascists", which after looking at his posts, amount to anyone who doesn't agree with him.
