How do you get through to Trump supporters who prefer propaganda?

I read an interesting quote today by Evan McMullin:
"I can't stress enough the extent to which Trump's base now lives in an alternative info environment and who can blame them? Everyone is lying to them. Trump. His team. Many right-wing commentators. Congressional Republicans. The GOP. Fox News. This is a huge long-term problem."

Do you agree with Mr. Mcmullin's comment, or do you believe Trump supporters are willfully ignorant?

Hi there,

For what it is worth, and IMHO, I honestly see this as a problem for both (or all) ends of the political/cultural spectrum.
I think it is good to at least ask ourselves how biased we ourselves are, and how open we ourselves are to other perspectives, if we are going to criticise others or support a narrative that other people are so deluded.

All anyone really knows about Trump is what their chosen media sources tell them. I am certain from what I see, that that there is a huge bias in both directions, depending on which media/social media bubble a person finds themselves in.

From my side, I used to identify as very left, and was appalled and freaked out when it started to look like Donald Trump might win the election, back in 2016.
But since then I have also seen how biased and blinkered many left wing/anti Trump perspectives are.

Its complicated. But I have come to the opinion that just as in any argument within a marriage, pushing all the blame onto the other party is usually a mistake.

Peace!

@JulianJames everything wrong is the fault of trump and his minions...IMHO
@JulianJames The thing is, Trump has been in the public eye for a very long time. Most of us who dislike Trump remember him long before he ever considered running for president, when he wasn’t considered important enough for anyone on either side to “spin”. It’s his supporters who are being sold a bill of goods.

@JulianJames I watch his speeches and I cringe every time. If I said the things is says, I would hate myself. Maybe I am biased.

He lies and tells tales, a lot. You might think it’s okay for a leader to do stuff like that but I don’t. Am I biased?

Should I go on?
