She's running for office and has nothing to lose by taking that position. Especially since she isn't going to be the nominee. She's basically in the same lane as Bernie Sanders, and he's the frontrunner (at least until Joe Biden declares). So she's trying to increase her support with that statement.

Don't worry, it's up to Nancy Pelosi, and she's already said impeachment is off the table. I despise Trump, but I agree with her - it would be a waste of time since the Senate will never vote to convict him, and it could backfire by making him into a martyr.

The House should instead concentrate on hearings and investigations, and passing bills that the eventual Democratic nominee can point to and say they support.

@Lila15 Actually Pelosi said she didn't want to seek impeachment unless, "something so compelling and overwhelming" was found

The offenses laid out by Mueller are FAR more severe than what Clinton was impeached for. She hasn't commented on it yet. Once they see the undredacted version things could change very quickly.

The problem is that while Congress would be acting in the best interest of the country, and our Democracy to prevent future Presidents from behaving like Trump, his poor, persecuted base would be emboldened. Sorta' like the "war on christmas." They give two shits about the nation or our democracy. So any impeachment proceedings HAVE to consider the political ramifications.
