@trackboy no we won't... so much Natural gas and solar and wind coming online along with batteries.

@trackboy
we would have to build a lot more coal power plants to make the electricity for the electric cars.
That's something that seems to be overlooked. A litre of petroleum (petrol/gasoline or diesel) is contains roughly 10 kWh of energy. Regardless of how that electricity is generated, it will have to be generated. It also needs to be distributed. Even allowing for their greater efficiency, I don't think we have the capacity in the UK to generate sufficient electricity if everyone switched to electric vehicles. Even if we have, I seriously doubt the national grid could handle the additional load.

@BetweenKittensandRiots batteries are a power storage device not a power source in themselves. to make more natural gas power plants to power the electric cars would cause great shortage of natural gas. so that leaves coal. wind is expensive. so is solar and solar only really works in the desert areas of the south. could be massive blackouts then people would be running generators to provide power for their houses in the blackouts. the generator makers would be happy as they would be selling a lot of generators. the ups unit makers would be happy to as people would be buying a lot of ups units for the blackouts. makers of blackout lights would be happy as they would sell a lot of blackout lights too. 😺
