Isn't there freedom of religion in America?
So why on Earth do we keep trying to shove our beliefs down each other's throats when we are free to believe in whatever we want in this country?

Because monotheist religions which happen to be the major ones each run under the doctrine that their God is the right one. When you view your deity as an actual being with feelings, it becomes more complicated and tribal.
