I just ran some simple numbers.

By the time of slavery's abolition the US had condoned slavery for 88 years (1864-1776).

Around that time the average wage of someone of their occupation was $10/year making the total sum owed in 1864 to be $880.

With inflation that would be worth $22,500 today.

Assuming we literally paid every single African American (which we wouldn't) that means the US would have to give them $945B (based on a population of 42M African Americans).

Given this data, would you accept that $945B is an acceptable sum to pay to finally repay the ancestors of slaves and finally remove the idea of white guilt from US culture?

Lol.
White man guilts idea of "What's fair in their eyes today for the barbaric behaviour of their for father's generation"

How do you even get your head around the idea that this was a business ?
Ships. Owned by businessmen.Sponsored by other businessmen. Sailing to places to round up humans as if they were sheep.
Take them violently from their families; chain them; make them work for you: beat them; rape them;
Build the world's largest economy from them and not even consider it a crime for 250 years ?

What figure could possibly be considered restitution for that ?

I'd be curious to know how many businesses today are only there because of what slavery did for them.

If you had to do business today with a cimpany/conglomerate that created their wealth ostensibly in this manner. Would you still use it ?
@Picklebobble2 The figure is based on how long the US condoned slavery. The Brits can answer for everything prior to 1776 imo

@SW-User Going a little off topic. Basically Europe can pay their own shit back. The US only has to from 1776 onward as they weren't a nation until then

... and even today America names a price for the value of a man not his worth.

And yes Europe has to answer for the same from the Romans onward I should think.
@Picklebobble2 If we make this about every nation that had slavery then Asia and Africa have to answer for it too. Everyone has to pay everyone.

This is actually just about the US finally putting the shit behind them. The idea would be that once this is done you no longer have to feel guilt or upset over the past and move on.

@Qwerty14 Nice try ! YOU don't get to ERASE YOUR history by encouraging the DESCENDANTS to take what's effectively A BRIBE JUST so YOU get to FEEL better about it.

Because NO amount of MONEY would ever be able to cover it.

If you were in their position, would you take it ?
@Picklebobble2 First off it ain't my history. And yeah I would take it. Free money for nothing is an obvious thing. Fact is the people who were owed are long dead. This is just a way to shut up the current people who feel they're owed when they're technically not. It's a compromise
