It's Not Often I'll Defend Lizzy Warren... But In This Case, I Will.

Facebook takes down Elizabeth Warren ads calling for breakup of Facebook

Facebook has removed several ads placed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign that called for the breakup of Facebook and other tech giants.

The ads, which had identical images and text, touted Warren's recently announced plan to unwind "anti-competitive" tech mergers, including Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp and Instagram.

“Three companies have vast power over our economy and our democracy. Facebook, Amazon, and Google," read the ads, which Warren's campaign had placed Friday. "We all use them. But in their rise to power, they’ve bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field in their favor.”

Facebook should be investigated and grilled before Congressional committees for this.

It's time to treat the tech giants like the television networks once were.

Her name is Elizabeth.
And Facebook, as a private entity, can do WHATEVER it wants when it comes to their platform in relation to content. If the law changes then they'll have to change. If not then they won't.
I think those three (and others), should be broken up too. But that's irrelevant.

I called her Lizzy.

Not Dizzy.

Even though some of her ideas give people a headache.

But in this case she's right on target.

And, by the way, private entities cannot do "whatever they want" as Congress has the authority to pass laws regulating them!

@beckyromero So you're calling for the government to dictate what private entities can position on their platforms? That content and ads would need to be reviewed first?
OK.
Here's another thought. Don't use Facebook.

@Ynotisay What Facebook did wasn't illegal and it shouldn't be. It does however, demonstrate that they have power. Too much power imo
Ynotisay · M
@Burnley123 I totally agree with you.
Although I do think ads are a very different animal than editorial or opinion pieces.

@Ynotisay If it were just ads nobody would care. But where does the sharing of information end ? And with whom ? Are there companies, PEOPLE you wouldn't want your information being made available to ?

@Ynotisay
So you're calling for the government to dictate what private entities can position on their platforms? That content and ads would need to be reviewed first?

So in other words you're saying Facebook should be allowed to decide for themselves what ads they can show.

Perhaps ads for child porn?

If you're not for regulation, then that's what you believe.
Ynotisay · M
@beckyromero Child porn is against the law.
Question. Do I come across as a complete idiot to you?
If so, I'll stop responding to your posts.
If not, please don't insult my intelligence with nonsense like that, ok? Thanks.

@Ynotisay

Well then don't say:

And Facebook, as a private entity, can do WHATEVER it wants when it comes to their platform in relation to content.

Your emphasis of "whatever" - not mine.

Child porn is against the law.

Because CONGRESS RIGHTLY MADE IT SO!

@beckyromero I'm going to breath and not say what I want to say. I'm done with you though.

Your choice.
