Democrat's Double Standards

@MyParentsAreProud Sadly true. Too many socialists and progressives don't know any history at all including the fact that Stalin and Hitler were the progressives of their day and progressives here in Canada and the US worshiped the ground they walked on. Here in Canada we have Stalin's tactics being used on Canadians as the federal government is shutting down the oil industry in the west much like Stalin starved the Ukrainians.

The Republicans that freed the slaves in the 1860’s were progressives/liberals from Northern states. What do you say happened then? They all packed up and moved to the South and Great Plains states? Because that’s where today’s Republicans dominate.

By the time Kennedy was elected President, politics was not based on principle. Both parties had liberals and conservatives. Then came the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which was passed primarily by senators and congressmen of both parties from Northern states, with senators and congressmen of both parties representing Southern states or districts voting in opposition. It was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat.

The result? Because a Democratic President signed groundbreaking civil rights legislation, the parties began to realign. The conservatives migrated to the Republican Party because they opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act (which was signed by a Democratic President), and the liberals (the spiritual descendants of those Republicans who freed the slaves) all migrated to the Democratic Party. It happened gradually over the course of about 30-40 years, and now the right-most Democrat in Congress is still to the left of the left-most Republican.

The parties realigned. The geography changed somewhat too (Kansas, for example, is no longer the liberal stronghold it was at the time of the Civil War, and Virginia typically doesn’t vote like the rest of the South anymore), but it would be less inaccurate to say that it was the Northern states, or what are today the blue states that freed the slaves.

@hippyjoe1955 I honestly haven’t taken the time to read the article, but I’ve gathered from the comments that all she did was question Israel’s policies. That’s not anti-Semitic. I’ve seen several anti-Semitic posts on SW complaining about all the Jews in Congress (apparently 99% of which are Democrats), and how they’re allegedly robbing everyone and taking away the nation’s sovereignty in favor of globalism. Anyway, what does that have to do with whether or not today’s Republicans freed the slaves?
