When is an emergency not an emergency ?

That should go down well with the judge.

@RodionRomanovitch The non-emergency will be shot down in the courts. Trump can blame the courts and claim victory.

@windinhishair He can save face a little but it's a long stretch to actually claiming victory. He still won't be getting his wall.

@RodionRomanovitch No, but it has never really been about a wall, has it? It has been about pleasing his base. They will be pleased.

@GunSmoke9 If they do, our system of checks and balances is gone. We shall see whether we still have a democracy or not.

@windinhishair Other presidents have done it. I worry about our democracy, that's why I oppose the extremist in the democrat party.

@GunSmoke9 No other president has ever attempted anything remotely close to declaring an emergency where none existed.

@windinhishair Caravans are coming, more are forming. What would you call it?

@GunSmoke9 How many thousands of caravans forming. How many tens of millions of people?

You do realize that border crossings are at a 47-year low, right?

@windinhishair Yet they keep coming. Our immigration policies have to be fixed. The wall is just one part of it.

@GunSmoke9 I have no problem with enhancing existing wall and extending it into some additional areas, combined with other technology and personnel. That's what the border bill does that the president signed today. But a Wall is just plain dumb, will be too costly, and won't work.

@GunSmoke9 Trump's , or more correctly Sessions' immigration policy have led directly to the so-called crisis at the border. And that was their intention all along , to manufacture a crisis which would then be used as an excuse to implement a campaign promise which was never ever a serious proposition.

@windinhishair It will work. What happens when an open borders democrat becomes president, and decides to pull back on border agents and technology? Which they will. A wall is permanent.

@GunSmoke9 We don't have open borders. We haven't had open borders in your lifetime. We won't have open borders moving forward. Border security is bipartisan. Only the wall is partisan, because it is wasteful and won't work.

@RodionRomanovitch Did Trump or Sessions go to Central and South America to form caravans? Our immigration laws are flawed and broken, Trump is trying to fix it. We also don't need to give more incentives for illegals to come.

@GunSmoke9 No , but they made it virtually impossible to claim asylum and then separated children from their families , et voilà there's your 'humanitarian crisis'.

And the caravans aren't a new thing and they are certainly not a clear and present danger to the US , no matter how much scaremongering Trump , Hannity , Limbaugh et al indulge in.

@windinhishair Beto is talking about destroying what walls we now have. Listen to some of the democrats speak.

@GunSmoke9 Beto is from El Paso, which has a long historic relationship with Ciudad Juarez. He was thinking about that wall that was constructed between the two cities, which did nothing for the crime rate. In fact, after it was built, the crime rate went up 17% between 2006 and 2011.
