To the conservatives here

If Trump can declare a national emergency and build a wall, what is to stop a Democrat President from declaring a national emergency and confiscating certain guns?

Too many things wrong with dems thinking here...
Rifle registration is not required, so they dont know who has those guns. Will they pay some workforce to go door to door looking through houses for certain types of guns? Or will it be an emergency that allows an optional turn-in? Lmao, why cant dems use common sense?!

Unreasonable search and seizure in addition to infringing on the right to bear arms. . . Bye, bye Bill of Rights

@easterniowegin Banning stocks and certain guns already infringes the 2nd amendment.
easterniowegin · 51-55, M
@SW-User yes it does...and has no impact on criminals anyway.
But we have rights in this country and "confiscating" certain guns is unconstitutional.

@SW-User we're talking about reappropriating funds to pay for a wall that was already approved by congress.
How does that compare to violating citizens' rights??!
SW-User
@easterniowegin He is bypassing congress. The funds are not really for the wall. He is just allocating funds to it by National Emergency. Pretty much by passing congress.
SW-User
@easterniowegin This was a rhetorical question. Once the precedent is set that it's okay to abuse powers for political reasons, there's nothing to stop future presidents from taking it to the next level in ways you might not like.

@SW-User You're awesome

@SW-User but there is something to stop future presidents from taking action against citizens....the Constitution.
Trump is not taking action against any citizen. He is simply moving funds from one unused area into an area to be used. We have to be able to draw a line at citizens' rights!!
SW-User
@easterniowegin It's not about action against citizens. It's about presidential power. President shouldn't be able to bypass congress for their own personal gain.
SW-User
@easterniowegin There are some things to stop them, but those are gradually being eroded away. The precedent was already set years ago that the president is above the law. Bit by bit, it gets weaker and weaker. It's inevitable that eventually someone will grab the ring and make themselves emperor.

I guess i see a significant separation in intent here...he is moving unspent money from one dept to another in an effort to properly fund border security that congress has already agreed needed addressed. He is not creating a new directive that goes against multiple citizens rights.

For their own personal gain? How about the gain of the country? The added security?
SW-User
@Budwick The wall will not stay up. It is obvious. Trump knows this as well as every politician. So it is for personal gain and is a waste of money.

Now, I will tell you this, if the wall works, I will eat my words and claim it as a big Trump achivment but I don't see it working as it should.

Well, I'm delighted to report that EVERY where there is a barrier along the border, they are experiencing great success. I see no reason to expect something different from new barriers.

You don't need to eat anything, or even apologize.
You COULD stop complaining though. Thank you.

@SW-User in what way is the wall only a personal gain?? And why do so many rank and file dems say that a wall wont work? Where in the world does a wall not work? And how long have dems been against any kind of regulation? This is simply regulation of the border. Seems like dems are more worried that a wall might work and less worried that it wont.
SW-User
@easterniowegin I'm libertarian haha but I see this as a huge waste of money. If it works, I will give credit to Trump.
