Is O’Rourke correct? Would El Paso residents vote in favor of tearing down the existing wall there?

Anyone have any studies or factual data on that?

In terms of sheer numbers - here's a record of El Paso's murder rate history.

@Mamapolo2016 not all murders have to be declared in a statistic,

The actual wall was built in 94-95 from what I hear , before the ongoing cartel wars and a higher extension was built in 2008.
Those murder statistics also don’t mean much in context of a wall without knowing the yearly murder statistics of Juarez.. I mean 20 murders last year in El Paso while almost 2000 in Juarez sounds like the wall did a damn pretty good job don’t you think?
@Deadcutie I am inclined to agree. Finding 'good numbers' borders on the impossible these days. I was just looking for some.

However, just because Juarez and El Paso are adjacent doesn't necessarily mean murder is contagious. A lot of things factor in, among them how the laws of two different countries assess what's murder and what isn't.

@Mamapolo2016 yes, also jurisdiction. The greater El Paso metropolitan area covers multiple counties and states(Arizona)
You also have state and federal jurisdictions, military jurisdictions. Like I said, they are under no obligation or in their best interest to release true murder statistics and can manipulate the numbers to paint a more favorable picture to their city..
And not to be racist by any means but it’s factually correct, it’s a predominantly white/white hispanic and it has a massive city, state and federal police, FBI and military presence... along with other federal government agencies
@Deadcutie Well, what I found was that El Paso is 79+% Hispanic, and presumably so is Juarez.

A great deal of the difference between cities is how much freedom drug cartels have to operate and how bad they get stung if they step out of line. Another is the amount of opportunity to do better legally.

As you say, though, statistics are paid for by the ones who have the most to lose if the numbers look bad.

@Mamapolo2016 well it’s 80% of Hispanic ethnicity , ethinticity and race are individually exclusive. They are identified as white, or white hispanic.. whites of non Hispanic ethnicity is 14%
The main point is the near absence of another race......

@Deadcutie Yes, I get that Hispanic is not a race. Now there are two of us.
