This government shutdown has really shown how cold hearted some people in Washington can be towards those affected by the shutdown. With Kevin Hassett who is Trump's advisor suggesting in an interview on Thursday that the nearly 800,000 federal workers who aren’t getting paid are “better off” because they’re on an extended vacation.

That's not a vacation if you're struggling to pay for things such as rent, a house, bills, etc. I don't think Hassett or others in Washington would enjoy working with no pay.

Tell Nancy and Chuck that there IS a solution.
And, it will make the nation safer.

@Budwick Yeah by funding for more border security rather than funding for a wall that won't make Americans safer.

Sorry, I don't follow.

@Budwick Trump's border wall will not make Americans safer.

That's your opinion.
Actual fact says otherwise.
Where there ARE already barriers - illegal crossing is down dramatically.

@Budwick Illegal crossings to the U.S. had been on the decline for several years before Trump became president. Why? because of border security.

Even Trump's wall were built, it wouldn't stop illegal migrants from coming in. Since a majority of migrants in the United States overstay their visa.

The number of migrant parents entering the United States with children has surged to record levels in the three months since President Trump ended family separations at the border, dealing the administration a deepening crisis three weeks before the midterm elections.

Border Patrol agents arrested 16,658 family members in September, the highest one-month total on record and an 80 percent increase from July, according to unpublished Department of Homeland Security statistics obtained by The Washington Post.

Large groups of 100 or more Central American parents and children have been crossing the Rio Grande and the deserts of Arizona to turn themselves in, and after citing a fear of return, the families are typically assigned a court date and released from custody.

“We’re getting hammered daily,” said one Border Patrol agent in South Texas who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media.

@Budwick Illegal border crossings are currently at a 41-year low. There is no "crisis".
You assume that border security equals a wall. There is no equivalency. Some type of physical barrier makes sense in certain areas. In other areas, it makes no sense at all. The solution is enhancing existing barriers, extending them in certain areas, increasing the number of border patrol agents, increasing and improving technology, etc. If Trump would back off his demand for a 2000-mile wall, which will not work, perhaps we could get somewhere. The simple fact is that everyone wants border security. The only difference is how to achieve it.

Correct. Therefore, Trump's wall wouldn't work. Because there will still be illegals migrants in the country. Trump states that it will stop illegal migrants from getting into the country entirely.
Border Patrol agents arrested 16,658 family members in September, the highest one-month total on record and an 80 percent increase from July, according to unpublished Department of Homeland Security statistics obtained by The Washington Post.
In that case Border security arresting 16,658 family members at the border means it's working and Trump's claim that border security is not doing much to stop illegal migrants is a lie.
Large groups of 100 or more Central American parents and children have been crossing the Rio Grande and the deserts of Arizona to turn themselves in, and after citing a fear of return, the families are typically assigned a court date and released from custody.
Yeah, to turn themselves in. And to probably request asylum.
“We’re getting hammered daily,” said one Border Patrol agent in South Texas who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media.
This is why border security was being funded to hire in more border patrol agents because it's understaffed.

@SW-User
illegal migrants
Let me break the secret code for you Autumn.

illegal migrants don't have visa.
legal migrants do.

no one is trying to stop legal immigration.
SW-User
@Budwick What code? But when their visa expires do they become illegal. So...you just proved my point on why Trump’s wall wouldn’t work, again
Budwick · 70-79, M
@SW-User Actually poor Autumn, you've proven yourself to be willfully ignorant and unworthy of any further attention.
SW-User
@Budwick Well thanks for wasting your time. Especially since my post was centered on how people in Washington viewed those who are affected by the government shutdown and had nothing to do with the border wall. You should REALLY work on that attention span of yours and your facts next time around Budwick.
