The thing that amazes me is that people don't see that Russiagate is just a massive distraction.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I'm not sure that Russiagate is totally a distraction, but I think the same thing could be said about the wall.

Border protection and immigration are public policy issues, to be sure, but the crystallization of those issues into a wall is a setup for a political fight, which will get great ratings and let both sides rattle their sabers, but is not likely to actually result in anything more than a political win and loss.
@MistyCee It is to distract from all kinds of things. The DNC can avoid all accountability for completely screwing every aspect of the last election up and it justifies more militant foreign policy. And yet Hillary was being bankrolled by a medieval kingdom run by religious nutjobs...but doing business in Russia is somehow worse. Frankly I am surprised there aren't internment camps in Brighton Beach yet.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow

SMH. Russiagate is an assault on Trump, no doubt, but Trump is the guy in office, and it's calling into question what he's doing now and why he might be doing it.

I'm not seeing it as much of a "distraction," even if it is a witch Hunt.
@MistyCee ask yourself why Russia though? There is a much more compelling and much stronger case for going after him for his well known connections to the Jersey mob families. Hell he was a character witness for a mobster.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow

A couple of reasons come to mind off the top of my head with regard to why Russia.

1. Russian social media trolling was found, and it seems to have connections to people in contact with the Trump campaign, i.e. Cambridge Analytica;

2. Trump asked for Russian help to beat Hillary on camera;

3. The Trump Tower meeting seems to have taken place, according to Jr, for the express purpose of getting Russian assistance;

4. Trump himself has lied repeatedly about Russia and seems to have a thing for Putin and others.

It looks to me like Russia is "low hanging fruit," i.e., stuff that's easily picked, and yeah, it's juicy politically, too.

Are you saying Russia was picked because the DNC was actually in bed with Russia, e.g., Uranium One, and the plan was to defeat Trump, but it backfired and now they're using it to prevent discovery of that? I'm not sure where you're going.
@MistyCee i am saying 99% of the so called hacking evidence is very suspicious since the DNC hired a tech firm ( not a law enforcement agency) to look for and compile the evidence. The biggest issue with that is the company is owned by a Russian ex pat who has a personal vendetta against Vladimir Putin and would happily frame his former country for the JFK assassination if he could. Some of the so called Russian oligarchs he had these meetings with are not even Russian but Ukrainian but in this one instance are treated as the same thing.

Ironically Mr. Clinton's administration actually bragged in Times magazine that they fixed the 96 election in Russia. Got to wonder if that was the inspiration.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Lets not keep pretending Trump is some kind of Genius here (stable or otherwise) He is a dupe and a Patsy. He made bad decisions, borrowed from the wrong people and now owes them. This is true of the Mob, Russian state connected Banks and Arab princes. Sure the Russians are playing this for all its worth. But he is not a conspiritor, He doesnt have the brains for it. At best hes a bag man. But this investigation is helping to pull America out of the superpower chair and into the mud. Thats the Russian game.
@whowasthatmaskedman agreed but the DNC is using it as a blanket excuse for everything that goes wrong to the point even Trump started blaming Russia for everything. Next we will be told Putin controls bad weather too.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow another thing is that the hacking supposedly originated from Russian computers. First day of hacking for beginners is never launch an attack from home. So we must simultaneously believe they are both expert hackers to pull it off and at the same time rank amateurs who don't know what most teenage script kiddies know.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Yup, that sounds suspicious, but that angle doesn't make me any less suspicious of Russia or the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization.

It does, however, make me glad that Mueller has the go ahead to follow up on anything else his investigation might uncover.

Most importantly, though, it doesn't give me a reason to want to shut down or dismiss as "fake" anything which might be detrimental to Trump.

The fact that the DNC might have also have dirty hands just doesn't seem to me to be a reason not to check the hands of the smelly guy leaving the restroom with dry hands and toilet paper on his shoe.
@MistyCee agreed. But lets not pretend they are doing this out of altruism either.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Of course not.

This is the real world and everyone has their own motivations. No one should be presumed to have clean hands, but we have to resist the urge to shrug it off and not let the process play out.
@MistyCee The problem with the " blame Russia for everything " is it is creating a situation where anything short of hostility towards Russia is regarded as treasonous and we are now at the most dangerous point since the early 80s.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I hear you, and in terms of a foreign "foe, I'm more worried about China, actually, but what really worries me is that we have a President whose decision making may be subject to foreign manipulation and he's not even being consistent about his denials.

@MistyCee doubt it they will blow you up it makes no financial sense to do it specifically from Chinese point you owe them way too much money
@Longleggedlady Quite true. Don't tell anyone I said this, but ironically, Trump is probably a better guy than most to figure out how to deal with hostile creditors, except this time there's no bankruptcy court to run to for help.
Longleggedlady · 36-40, F
Bottom line is if has the friends everyone is accusing him off they are powerful, and have and use methods that go into really scary

I agree, no point in the Chinese starting a war. Particularly since they own more of the country every year. What the Chinese DO understand is the connection between political power and economic power. They are "lending" small nations money for development, way beyond what they can pay back, then when the loans aren't paid, trading that for fishing rights trade deals. defence base agreements and votes in the UN. Not so different from what America has done since WW2, but more organised. And they are going to pull similar stunts with larger nations including America to forgive debt. Why start a war?@Longleggedlady
Longleggedlady · 36-40, F
@whowasthatmaskedman economic power is way more powerful than military or political power
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Longleggedlady And it doesnt leave a complete ruin of a nation behind that you have to rehabilitate. like Germany and Japan.
Longleggedlady · 36-40, F
Exactly we smart people have figured that out when you have enough of a hold you can start to dictate sometimes you need to install the right person as well to get away with it
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Longleggedlady Which is why Trump represents such a danger to the status quo. He he wakes up too many voters he could undo several decades of a well oiled machine.
Longleggedlady · 36-40, F
@whowasthatmaskedman I have no feelings for or against him I am not American ,but I quite like the stupid things he does they can be very financially beneficial
