Russians or any other criminals were always laundering money in usa by buying properties. It's not a new thing.
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@Dan193 And it has always been illegal.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@snowbelt yes, but you can't blame only 1 person for that, it's the whole system that way.
SW-User
@Dan193 You can't blame criminals for being criminals? Typical Republican rationalization.
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@Dan193 You can prosecute people who are guilty of a crime. That's how you stop it. If Trump is guilty of money laundering, he should be prosecuted. Period. So should other people who have committed similar crimes.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User omg
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@snowbelt I agreed, I said yes, it is a crime and people should be punished for it. I just said it's not a new thing, like it came with Trump and he would be at fault for having it happen. It's been happening since forever, since probably money laundering became a thing.

@Dan193 exactly.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Mindful Thank you

@Dan193 Trump started money laundering in the early 1990s after the fall of the Soviet Union. It was well known that many of his properties had been purchased by Russians with stolen money and were unoccupied. When these properties were flipped, sometimes at a loss, the proceeds would then be "clean". He should have been prosecuted back then and since as his activities continued. You're correct that it isn't a new type of crime, but Trump was very heavily involved and was widely known for it.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@snowbelt I understand what you mean.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@snowbelt why is a crime not treated like a crime for some people?

I sound like an innocent child. But yeah, why?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Mindful I think he admited it himself, when he publucally announced during his election that he gave Hillary 5000 dollars, and that he was a beneficiary and had "to get along" with many politicians during the years, because that's him being a good businessman (his words). So maybe that had something to do with the laundering of his properties.
snowbelt · 61-69, M
@Mindful Many reasons--lack of personnel to prosecute, payments to officials to look the other way, inattention by regulators, etc. Look at Trump's Foundation, for example. His Foundation was a criminal enterprise for close to 20 years. Why wasn't it caught earlier? Because Foundations are rarely scrutinized by regulators (by the way, the same lack of scrutiny applies to the Clinton Foundation as well). There was a reason why Trump tried (unsuccessfully) to shut down his Foundation the day after he was elected. He knew it was criminal and was trying desperately to keep it secret. New York State kept it open, investigated it, and found that it had been operated as nothing more than an illegal Trump Piggy Bank. Trump and his children face fines and prosecution as a result.

@snowbelt thanks for the details.

@Dan193 not all Russians are criminals there is a difference between in illegal and doing stuff that is legal but just not considered nice or fair that is why there are three market's normal open market,black market and the most profitable Grey market legal maybe barely but considered unfair
Dan193 · 31-35, M

Longleggedlady · 36-40, F

@Longleggedlady @Longleggedlady I could be wrong. I admit it. I just can’t even imagine Russians loving their children or smiling in a joyous way. They just seem so negative and cynical about everything.
