Why the “wall” works for the President and dooms the Dems

The largest voting block wants “the wall” in some form. By largest voting block I mean the largest plurality that agrees and supports any one political issue. They don’t want a fifth century wall they want a 21st century technology filled border barrier added to the areas where nothing exists together with more and better border security along the entire border it’s his signature issue and the one that will get him re-elected. It’s a win if the Dems continue to do zero. It’s a win if more “wall” goes up. Him sitting tight while the Senate kills any House approved bills works to his advantage even more daily. Meanwhile the Dems are the obstructionists.

One possibility beyond partisan politics-- is that a wall makes no damn sense. At least in the absence of a comprehensive border security program.

Already we have: people putting ramps over fences and walls and driving over them; people making tunnels; people climbing; people entering by legal means and staying; people entering in container ships and trucks as cargo.

And then we have drugs: catapulted over fences and walls; dropped by drones and ultralights; brought in by manned and unmanned submersibles; and all the ways people come in.

So a lot of informed people aren't going to get their nut over a wall. Doesn't mean they want open borders.

And Trump subverts his own case for a wall. Praised border security for stopping the caravan. But then it's in the news that 1000 people are released pending asylum cases. OH. And the tweet about the 10 foot wall around the Obama's.

So far I see no evidence from this administration that anyone is serious about illegal immigration. Sure. Some high profile shit. The wall. Child separation. Some ICE deportations...

... but the itinerant farm labor has cycled through North Florida to South Florida just like it always has. For the last 20 years I have paid attention. Everyone knows where they are. No change.

Correct. What i clearly wrote is that “wall” ie barrier supporters ...

@CopperCicada
@jackjjackson Yes. That is what you wrote. I get that.

But that is not how this has been spun by this administration.

I'd support spending *much more* and getting that from cuts in other places if it was a legit comprehensive plan.

I know it's BS as I'm in a red state and the illegal farm labor is unphased.

@CopperCicada A wall is just a part of what is needed to fix our immigration problems. We have to cut down on insensitives that encourages illegal crossing. End chain migration. Crack down on who overstay their vistas.

@GunSmoke9 agreed

There is a plan and this is the last part the dems haven’t agreed to ... YET @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson alright. if you say so. nothing has changed in my own backyard despite the rhetoric
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Because the plan hasn’t become law. Get behind it and you will see results. @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson i guess i'm see the status quo with the existing laws not being enforced.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
That’s been the problem for decades. @CopperCicada
