Why the “wall” works for the President and dooms the Dems

The largest voting block wants “the wall” in some form. By largest voting block I mean the largest plurality that agrees and supports any one political issue. They don’t want a fifth century wall they want a 21st century technology filled border barrier added to the areas where nothing exists together with more and better border security along the entire border it’s his signature issue and the one that will get him re-elected. It’s a win if the Dems continue to do zero. It’s a win if more “wall” goes up. Him sitting tight while the Senate kills any House approved bills works to his advantage even more daily. Meanwhile the Dems are the obstructionists.

59% of Americans oppose the wall.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cbs-news-poll-americans-dont-support-building-the-wall/

That's almost the same percentage that oppose the president. Only Republicans (79%) favor a wall. Independents (66%) and Democrats (84%) oppose the wall.

Looks like a losing issue for the Republicans and Trump.
@windinhishair there is already a wall / fence and a long river - no need for another wall just more guards.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarmeeMarch More guards and improved surveillance will work and should be funded, along with normal maintenance of existing fencing. The Wall is nothing more than a wasteful symbol.
@windinhishair yea - the fools that think we need a wall never went on to Google Earth and zoomed down to the boarder - which I have done many times. They think it is an open space and that Mexicans have free roaming rights and we need to coral them in.

As usual you ignore the point deliberately or it’s over your head. There is no block of voters on any subject larger than the block of pro “wall” (whatever it is as long as it’s called a wall) voters. @windinhishair
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson Close to 60% of Americans oppose the Wall (or whatever you call it). It shouldn't be too hard to understand why that's not a positive for the president.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@windinhishair How many of those democrats that oppose the wall only because they hate Trump?
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@windinhishair A wall is permanent just needs regular maintenance. Everything else, border agents, technology can be pulled back or ended under another administration.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There is no other issue on any subject that 40% of voters support. It’s the President’s issue and the Dems lose on it. @windinhishair @GunSmoke9
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson I know math is one of you weaknesses, but 40% support and 60% non-support doesn't in any way indicate the president wins on this one. 40 is less than 60 in any language. Even TrumpSpeak.
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@windinhishair maybe use a non biased source. That woukd go a little further.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@CC67219 That's from a valid CBS poll. What would you suggest? Sean Hannity?
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@windinhishair I would suggest a source that is unbiased.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@CC67219 You believe CBS is biased? Then who would be unbiased? Fox News? Pravda? Trump?
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@windinhishair wow... after 2 comments about selecting an unbiased source you're just now figuring this out....?
How many people are you arguing with on how many different threads?
Im concerned your not actually engaged in our conversation and just focused on arguing.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@CC67219 Do you like NPR? According to them, 57% of Americans want him to compromise on the wall.

https://www.npr.org/2018/12/11/675334306/poll-americans-want-trump-to-compromise-on-border-wall-amid-possible-shutdown

Do you have a suggestion for an unbiased source you'd like to cite, or just keep going with unsupported statements?
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@windinhishair hows this for a statement: I'm an American, I never participated in any poll. I support Trump and want the wall built.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@CC67219 That's a statement all right. It proves nothing beyond what you, yourself believe. It says nothing about what Americans want.
CC67219 · 41-45, F
@windinhishair I hope you get well soon.
Happy New Year
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@CC67219 Happy New Year to you as well. Try facts next time--they usually work better in a discussion.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Name any democrat issue that 40% of the population supports. You can’t. That my point. Try as you might you can’t twist my written words. . @windinhishair

@jackjjackson The ACA - Obamacare

I can and you're welcome - no twisting necessary.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Old news. The Dems don’t want that anymore. They want Medicare for all. @hlpflwthat
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson Changing your point now? How is 60% disapproval a win for Trump and a loss for the Dems? No matter how you do the math, building the wall serves only to please a minority of voters who already support Trump. It is a loss, not a win, for Trump to build the wall.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
My point is that there is not a single current democrat issue that garners 40% support. @windinhishair
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@jackjjackson There are quite a few. Sensible gun control including universal background checks. Continued environmental protection. Global climate change efforts. Universal health care.
