Discussing Trump’s character is like a discussion of antimatter. He’s a void and has navigated through his life without the need of any discernible character, so I don’t think his character (or lack of) will be a determining factor in where he ends up. His character was on full display in 2015-2016, and enough people decided that his character didn’t matter that he was awarded the GOP nomination and ultimately the presidency. He is immune from any norms and any consequences.

I believe that wholeheartedly. It’s not like Trump has ever even pretended to be a decent human being. His transparent narcissism and blatant disregard for anyone else is probably the most honest thing about him. It was no mystery who he was when he was elected, which is why I shake my head when I hear others who are consistently shocked and appalled by him.
