Trump Directs Creation of Space Command as 11th Combatant Command
President Trump on Tuesday directed the Pentagon to create Space Command, a unified combatant command meant to lay the groundwork for his proposal to create Space Force.

“Pursuant to my authority as the Commander in Chief and under section 161 of title 10, United States Code, and in consultation with the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I direct the establishment, consistent with United States law, of United States Space Command as a functional Unified Combatant Command,” Trump said in a memo to the Pentagon on Tuesday.
I'm actually not against this. Unifying space operations under one umbrella makes sense to me.

@QuixoticSoul Booooooo!

I cannot think of one good reason this particular administration should lay ground work for anything.

Anything.

@hlpflwthat Eh, better that something gets done.
@QuixoticSoul this completely invalidates the entire point of NASA. Well Trump seems to want to take the US back to a fictionalized version of the 1950s so I guess it makes sense.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow NASA is for science and exploration, there is no real overlap here aside perhaps from some level of tech transfer.
@QuixoticSoul you need to brush up on your history. The only reason NASA became about science and not war is because it was removed from the hands of the USAF. This was done in part to avoid a space based arms race and is largely why there are no nukes in orbit. With moves like this that could change.
