Fascism is not merely a synonym for "authoritarianism" it is a specific type of authoritarianism. Mussolini said publicly that he thinks national and cultural ties are good, but that racial ties are useless. The American Blackshirts party denounces the unity with the Nazi Party during ww2. Before you freak out, i am NOT at all a fascist, but we don't have to strawman the ideology to defeat it. Not that it hasn't been defeated in 2018 already

I think it's very prone to it. Tapping into ethnic and racial aspects is often too tempting a tool for the fascist regime to exist. Good old minorityscape goats that can't fight back are useful for them.
