But confusingly, if they think there’s a chance they can win it, Labour could put a no confidence vote in parliament against the government but they don’t seem to want to do that until January if they do do it. If they won that then we have a general election

@monte3 They can change their leader, and therefore PM, without a general election. They don't have a majority though so a general election looks possible early next year.
