I wonder how many know that Hitler wasn't even German but Austrian? The German people were gullible at the time because of the economic depression that had hit the country and millions were out of work. It's frightening how a powerful and spellbinding speaker attracted a wide following of Germans desperate for change. Many believe they had found a saviour instead of a megalomaniac and murderer of millions.

@Seaholly Germans and Austrians were basically one people back then, so there is no real reason to focus on that.

Hell, that basically remains to this day, though Austria is more fun and laid back.

@Seaholly Austria was a rump state left over in the wake of the Versailles treaty. They were forbidden in said treaty from unifying with Germany, because it was obviously something all of them wanted, but the allies were worried that the resulting state would be too powerful.

The bad peace and constrained sovereignty after ww1 created some deep seated resentments in both Germans and Austrians.
