What do you call a country that if you don't vote in politics you get a fine of $20:00?

I just did and my excuse was the voting place was shut. In Australia by the way

Rather than fine people for not voting, the government should reward people who show up to vote... give them $100 for gas money, cash and tax-free just to show up and vote.

Ok, make it $20 for gas then... and stop hyperventilating!

@swirlie I can't help it. You are talking about a country that will fine you over $322 if you exceed the speed limit by 10 kph or 6mph

@SW-User

With that fine a potential thing for you, do you personally exceed the speed limit when you drive with that fine in mind?
SW-User
Yes

I'll assume then, that a $20 fine would not make you get out and vote, if a $322 fine would not deter you from speeding. Would I be correct?
SW-User
@swirlie no you are wrong actually. You have to be caught speeding to get fines

@SW-User

Damn, I hate being wrong. So then, you outrun the cops... is this what you do?
SW-User
I know you hate being wrong haha. No I don't outrun the cops or even try that. Most people are caught speeding by unmarked vehicles equipped with cameras and speed monitoring devices. you get the fine in the mail

Wow! That's sneaky!

In Canada, we have what are known as "red light cameras" at busy intersections. If you run a red light or are half-way through an intersection when the light changes from yellow to red, your license plate is photographed electronically and a fine is sent to the registered owner of the car.

As well, the registered owner is charged demerit points against his/her personal driver's license, which then requires a day in driver's school plus a written exam plus a mandatory road test in order to revalidate the car owner's drivers license, even if the registered driver was not driving the car at the time of the infraction.

If your kid takes the car for a joy ride and runs a bunch red lights, the registered owner takes the hit, not the kid! As well, the insurance company tells you to "bend over and say ahhhh...!". Running a red light doubles one's annual insurance premiums on the first infraction.

We have red light cameras as well. There ain't much they have not thought of

@swirlie Yep. We have the red light cameras. and sometimes paired with a speed camera to see if you speed up to run the light. They will hit you twice. Now add cameras in police cars with plate recognition that can track a car for being stolen, having outstanding fines, or even being unregistered with a couple of seconds and alarm the police driver who can give chase.

In Canada, you can go 20 km over the limit before the fines kick in. At 20 over, the fine is around $200, then it goes up. At 50km over the limit, your car is impounded for 7 days and your driver's license is suspended until you do the written test and road test as described, which of course is penance. Quite frankly, I would rather the cops just do a roadside spanking and avoid all the paperwork.

Wow! That is amazing too!

A technology I just learned about in Canada involves the use of a computer chip embedded within a car's onboard computer system. It uses GPS to make itself detectable via police GPS monitoring.

For example, if your car is involved in a robbery and someone gets your license plate number from your car, which is assuming that your car is suitable enough to act as the getaway car for the sake of my illustration, the police can then locate the exact position of your car by entering your vehicle's license plate number into their computer and they can locate your car as long as the engine is running in YOUR car.

Your vehicle can leave the country yet be located via satellite, whereby local law enforcement agencies are merely contacted and a police car is dispatched to intercept your car as it passes through their area of jurisdiction. There are no longer any high speed, tear-ass take-downs on the highway like the good old days!
