What do you call a country that if you don't vote in politics you get a fine of $20:00?

I just did and my excuse was the voting place was shut. In Australia by the way

I would call that a country which undervalues the value of a 'vote'. Truth is, the fine should be $1000.00

No, Canada.

@swirlie and do you have compulsory voting there

No we don't. We have the same problem as the USA. Voting is not compulsory.

omg you would be in the minority that thinks like that. Come live here then. If you can afford the visa to allow you to do that

I've always thought that voting should be compulsory, no different than showing up to buy a license sticker for your car each year is compulsory, or paying for car insurance each year is compulsory if you want to drive anywhere. If you want to be part of the system or if you want to maintain your citizenship in good standing, it should be mandatory that each of us show to vote.

@swirlie hey paying insurance is one thing being told that you must vote or we fine you is something else. Citizens have the right to decide what they want to do

"hey paying insurance is one thing being told that you must vote or we fine you is something else. Citizens have the right to decide what they want to do"

But hey, if a citizen is not prepared to support the society they choose to live in, then the government will make that decision for them. Is that how you would prefer to live?

@swirlie l support society I just don't support any choices we have in any of our governments

Perhaps if you ran for some government position, you would have someone to vote for!
