French are rioting in protest of new carbon tax.

"The anger is mainly over a hike in the diesel fuel tax, which has gone up seven euro cents per liter (nearly 30 U.S. cents per gallon) and will keep climbing in coming years, according to Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne. The tax on gasoline is also to increase four euro cents. Gasoline currently costs about 1.64 euros a liter in Paris ($7.06 a gallon), slightly more than diesel," the AP says.

I guess the French people don't believe that a tax will curb 'climate change".

@Budwick Actually that would have some logic to it. The Russians are the one's who benefit most selling fossil fuels to Europe. But really, while the timing of the protest appears to be emphasizing the fuel tax, I don't think that is the primary motivator. Macron is actually trying to relax labor laws, something which has long been a political hot-zone in France.

@Budwick Like I said, I don't think that is the primary motivator. More like a spark the ignited the underlying fuel. The new price of gas is just 1% different from the old price of gas. This alone is not the cause.

@revenant Probably not, but that's how people perceive her. Politicians do it all the time, build up these self-images, these public personas for the sake of attracting voters, which may or may not be accurate.

@Xuan12 that is what the lying press wants you to believe. Reading and hearing far right all the time is really annoying, They are against Macron and M le pen has nothing to do with it. Both parties AND anarchists and just vandals are taking part.
