I think Theresa May just needs a hug tbfh

Whatever she does, she can’t win. She knows her deal is terrible but knows the people who think she could’ve done better are lying.
Brexit was always going to fall apart when it was fixed and written down, rather than being an abstract fantasy. I wish we’d never had the referendum in the first place.

I agree about Brexit being an abstract fantasy but I don't feel sorry for May.

She got herself into this position by promoting things she couldn't deliver and prolonging the Brexit fantasy long after she must have realised it was untenable. She put her survival as PM over the national interest.
@Burnley123 I agree. I don’t think what she has done is right. But I think her survival as PM has given us some relative stability. If we kept changing PMs too we’d be even worse off. Would anyone actually have got any better deal? I know you’ll say Jeremy Corbyn could have, but how? He isn’t magic.

@AndrewtheAlu I do like Corbyn but he would struggle to get a better deal. An election could happen and Labour could get in but a new leader would have an impossible job given what has gone before. The EU is hardly likely to start negotiating from scratch and they are in a stronger position anyway. The only good option is cancelling Brexit.

More details are emerging about the deal May agreed to. Nobody can say it's what the public voted for.

@Burnley123 Agree. If she's as smart as she thinks she is, then she already knew this deal is not going to work out. So, she's either not smart enough to be PM, or she's more interested in her keeping her job.

Not that our stable genius can do any better.

@Burnley123 I'm ideologically aligned with Corbyn on a lot of stuff but when it comes to this he makes me despair

I'd like your take on this , but as I see it ; were the Labour Party to throw their full weight behind a demand for a second referendum (obviously citing the absolute catastrophe that awaits us otherwise) then surely the clamour would become such they'd have to accede to it. (I heard yesterday a poll citing 63% in favour of a second referendum.) Your thoughts ?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Yeah, I've come round to that conclusion.

There are no good options and a second referendum would leave a lot of people feeling cheated but those same people would also feel cheated by the actual reality of any kind of Brexit.

I've defended Corbyn and Mcdonnel on this for a long time and I think they would have been wiped out in the last election if they'd gone all in remain because it was too close to the vote. It was a tactical necessity and about respecting the ref result.

Now what Brexit actually entails is there for all to see: It's May's shitty right leaning soft Brexit or no deal. Anyone who thinks that a no deal Brexit is a desirable outcome (and there are plenty of them) is not educated on what it entails, or is sticking their head in the sand. Brexit itself was always a myth and a simple answer to complex questions.

Corbyn should come out now an fight for a second referendum. It's time. I know he wants an election instead but he would still have to negotiate Brexit afterwards. The EU won't want to start negotiations from scratch so he would be forced to implement something like May's deal and that would be very bad for the country.

So yeah, I completely agree with you. It's time for Labour to come all out and stop Brexit. Some Labour voters will be pissed off but this shit is too important not to act on.

@Burnley123 Let's hope common sense prevails mate.

@Burnley123 This isn't a loaded question, I genuinely can't remember.

Are Corbyn and McDonnel Remainers or Brexiteers? Did they campaign for either outcome?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@room101 They campaigned for Remain.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Burnley123 Thanks. Maybe it's just me but, it feels like they haven't been particularly clear, or indeed coherent, about their stance since the referendum.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@room101 I agree, Labour's stance has been a fudge.
