Best solution for all involved.
@jackjjackson Puerto Ricans are American citizens.

Kinda sort but not exactly. Independence would motivate them. @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson Jones–Shafroth Act, 1917. Puerto Ricans are American citizens without rescinding their Puerto Rican citizenship.

Puerto Rican members of the DNC and GOP actually elect delegates to national conventions and caucuses. They only reason they do not vote in general elections is that they do not have a residence in the 50 states or District of Columbia.

Puerto Ricans pay federal import/export and commodity taxes, as well as payroll taxes such as Social Security and Medicare. The income tax thing in Puerto Rico is complicated. I don't understand it.

Puerto Ricans serve in the US military. The 65th Infantry is famous.

They are United States Citizens.
@jackjjackson So I'm really intrigued by US citizens telling other US citizens they shouldn't be citizens.

Like I said kinda sorta. Your analysis is excellent. @CopperCicada

As you’ve outlined they are kinda sorta citizens. Perhaps they would be better off independent. They certainly and I suspect you may agree have no right to DEMAND to be a state? @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson They aren't "kind of sort of". They are citizens like you and I.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You outlined all the reasons why they differ. @CopperCicada

@jackjjackson how are you any different than Bill Clinton debating the definition of "is"?

There is nothing "kinda sorta" about it.

Puerto Ricans are American Citizens. Period. End of story.
@jackjjackson I actually outlined all the ways they are the same as any citizen.

As for not voting-- any citizen in the 50 states who can't prove residence in the 50 states also can't vote. Puerto Ricans are no different.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
CC set forth a complete list of differences. @JoeyFoxx @CopperCicada
@jackjjackson There are no differences when it comes to citizenship. Jones-Shafroth act. 1917.

If there is a difference-- they have no representation.

Even citizens of some of the other territories have representatives in the house, though with limited powers.

Thanks. I misunderstood.

I’m glad you agree that Puerto Rican are full American Citizens.

I appreciate the clarification
