I think Sanders was right to pull his press pass because he fought off the female intern who was trying to take the mic from him.
KaTeeEvent · 36-40, F
@beckyromeroFOUGHT her off.

The reporter merely refused to give up his mic because the prez didn’t answer his question. Acosta eventually handed it over. He didn’t fight off the intern who retrieved the mic. He shouldn’t be banned because he was doing his job and asking questions the President apparently finds difficult to answer.@beckyromero

@KaTeeEvent

He DID fight off the intern who tried unsuccessfully at first to take the mic away.

"Eventually" doesn't cut it. He was wrong.

Just because Trump's an asshole doesn't mean Acosta didn't act like one as well.
KaTeeEvent · 36-40, F
Blood shed? Guns, knives and a blackjack? No harm, no foul. I’m kidding here but he’s guilty of being over enthusiastic. Still think it’s worthy of a White House ban? I don’t.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
No fight. He pulled the mic from her reach and she kneeled down.

Did I say anything about blood shed?

Evidentally, you have conjured up certain ideas of what constitutes a fight.

Trump probably wishes the intern had slapped him down. She could have even taken Pence's place on the ticket if she was older. 😂
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Sure he did. When she asked for it he didn’t turn it over. The press conference wasn’t the Acosta show. He doesn’t get to hog it with his rhetoric. @KaTeeEvent
KaTeeEvent · 36-40, F
Um, you did read that I wrote “just kidding” right after bloodshed? Still think this battle is worthy of of pulling a guy’s press credentials? I don’t.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@KaTeeEvent

I think the press too often gives Trump exactly what he wants: a confrontation like yesterday.

If they covered him more objectively instead of emotionally, it wouldn't rile up his base so much.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
No struggle. No rough.

Nothing that he did rises to the definition of fight.

But, if you wish to call that a fight, then that means Trump began said fight by not answering a simple question and insulting the press.

It’s ok for the President but not for anyone else?

Please pick a side.

@beckyromero Lol, "Fought off" = Him moving his arm away from her and saying "Pardon me ma'am" as he tries to finish asking a question 😂

Oh, please stuff it.

I've probably been more critcal of Trump than 99% of the members on SW.

But now I have to "pick a side" because I think a reporter was out of line and unprofessional in struggling with a White House intern over control of a microphone?
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
He literally said “excuse me ma’am”

How can you reasonably say it was a struggle? It was not.

Your prior posts notwithstanding, this one seems biased. Your selective definition of fight would literally include Trump’s behavior. He was quite literally making an aggressive attempt to stop the press from doing their jobs.

The reporter from NBC who got the mic next stood up for his colleague and Trump remained combative.

The Press have attempted time and time again to pull the President back into reasonable discussions and he repeated refuses.

Would you prefer that the media be state controlled??

@beckyromero
beckyromero · 36-40, F
Saying "excuse me ma'am" while struggling to keep the mic made him look like a little boy trying to keep a toy away from his mom's grasp.

Too many of these reporters purposely goad the president into making rash comments. They KNOW he can't resist. They WANT this stuff. They are BAITING him and they know he wil; take the bait. But he knows that, by and large, his base will LOVE it. It HELPS him politically when this happens.

And too many reporters want to be the story. They have their own question to ask and they won't deviate from it. They can't think on their feet.

Take the idiot who followed the reporter who asked Trump a question about Crimea.

Why not follow up with "Well, sir, if it was President Obama's fault, what would you have done differently?"

But who is winning this battle? Trump.

The press can ask tough questions without being disrespectful and combative.

If he calls on someone else, don't shout out your question and talk over a fellow reporter. You ARE being rude - to that other reporter - when you do that.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
No struggle. It was the intern who initiated contact. He was trying to finish his question. He handed over the microphone less than 30 seconds after SHE TOUCHED HIM.

He said excuse me because that is polite behavior when someone else invaded your personal space inappropriately.

If he was being rude to the next reporter can you please explain why Peter Alexander then jumped to defent Acosta’s character?

Look, Acosta has a history of being brash and walking the line. In a question with Obama a few years ago he called ISIS “bastards” in a nationally televised conference.

If the White House felt so strongly about taking his credentials away, they could have cited a number of places where Acosta asked very challenging questions.

But no, they chose to be disingenuous about it. The most uncivilized and rude person at that press conference was the President.

I fail to understand why you cannot see this.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@beckyromero as for the rest of you statement about the media baiting him, you read what I wrote above. There are MANY in the media who have attempted to be cordial... and even then he cannot resist.

Is Acosta calling attention to himself? He is. Why? Because the public loves it. Folks from BOTH sides want this.

Senator Cruz talks about a “victory for Texas”, conveniently ignoring the 48% of his state that voted against him.

Nancy Pelosi gets up on stage on a night when SHE DIDNT RUN. She stood there as if she was at a pre-match press conference getting ready to do battle.

If we want better behavior from the press, we need to elect people who are better behaved.

And frankly, we all need to be more civil to one another.

So, if you touch me, I will say “excuse me ma’am”

:)

😂

Interesting concept you hold.

You evidentally think a reporter can keep a mic as long as he or she wants as long as they say they are "finishing" their question.

🙄

YOU are saying I don't see that.

I want the pompous jackass kicked out in the next election (if an impeachable offense can't be found before then).

But that's no reason to allow a rude, unprofessional reporter to keep his credentials.

What?!

She's a Member of the House of Representatives. Elections are held every two years for those seats.

[big]Of course she ran![/big]

Sure, it's an uncompetetive district, but she still ran for re-election.
room101 · 51-55, M
@beckyromero I'm sorry but I think that you're wrong about this one.

Acosta was doing his job by challenging trump on a very contentious issue. As usual, trump refused to answer.......and then an "intern" appears and tries to take the mic from Acosta.

Why? Why did she do that? Was she instructed? Since when is it OK for White House staff to physically prevent reporters from doing their jobs?

Perhaps you should take a closer look at the events as they transpired. This arcticle may be of some help.

:facepalm:

ummmm... oops. Well, I still can't stand her divisive politics.

🤡

Nonethless, it was an odd speech, much the same as Cruz'. It seemed to lack gratitude for those who voted for and a lack of empathy for those voted against.

I do agree with your point on demanding civility, but Trump has no credibility on this front. As I said, there were plenty of other things that Acosta has done that could be characterized as uncivil. But, intstead the White House has to declare that he initiated contact with the intern. He did not.

This shit goes back to the days of Sam Donaldson vs Reagan.

It's time people start demanding civility.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@room101

I think you're too accustomed to Prime Minister Question Hour. 😉

Politicians "don't answer the question" all the time.

I think proper thing to do is turn over the mic, sit down and let another reporter tack a crack at it n a different way.

Then let the evening news hour compile the clips and do an analysis.

But they don't do that anymore. Cable news changed all that.

Reporters all have their own agendas (meaning the question they want to ask). They're afraid to show another reporter's question on their newscast. They won't follow up on someone else's question (unless it was one they were going to ask).

I'm too young to remember this. But look at the difference:
