In 1845, USA was mostly an agrarian society, allowing farmers to need a full day of traveling by horse drawn vehicle to vote. Tuesday was the election day because they didn't want it to interfere with "biblical Sabbath", which was held on Wednesday in many towns.

Unfortunately, like today where everyone wants everything to fit "their needs" this day will be something you will just have to deal with and move on.
