Why are Democrats using dishonesty and fear in to win this election?

Its because they have no positive vision for the future and because little of their policy agenda is supported by ordinary Americans. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi will stoop to any low to gain an electoral advantage because they know that it's their only strategy.

They know that nobody wants to be like Venezuela so they use ridiculous false comparisons and straw-man arguments. They shamelessly use outright lies and invented problems in order to divide people and create an atmosphere of fear and paranoia. The liberal media promote their messages with the sole aims of getting their gullible base to vote against their own self-interest. They claim to be protecting ordinary Americans, whilst they plan to raid their Medicare and give tax breaks to Wall Street.

This won't work though. Conservative Americans will never fall for this.

As if a single party has the market cornered on dishonesty and fear.

The peer-reviewed psychological study referenced in this article sheds some light on conservatives having a predaliction and responsiveness to fear. Of course it’s science, which is often something eschewed by conservatives.

As far as the examples you seek:

Fear
Trump on Mexicans:
When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
This is clearly an attempt to play to the fears of the base he was appealing to at the time. His intention was to fear monger. Clearly, it worked and continues to work.

Lie

Trump’s claim that he’d be able to pay off the National Debt in 8 years. This was clearly a lie, and he clearly knew it. The ballet of bullshit that Trump spins here when O’Reilly pushed him on the National Debt is staggering. He actually says that eliminating the debt will be easy before he goes off sputtering into some cloudy false equivalency about the trade deficit and conflating it with the budget deficit.

Republicans use fear and deception, because it is a proven psychological ploy to which conservatives are susceptible. If you don’t think your side uses fear to motivate, you’re kidding yourself. Democrats use it, as well. I live in Illinois, and for the last several months, both gubernatorial candidates have run a barrage of ads that are intended to do nothing more than stoke fear and motivate people to vote. This country is fearful and angry, and both political parties know it and play to it.
