Okay, let's require a photo id to vote. But let's also give every person a photo id so that they can vote. Deal?

@SW-User how about make it mandatory to have an ID to vote, but leave getting that ID up to the prerogative to the voter.
SW-User
@PikachuTrainer Nah nah nah. It's all about compromise. You get your photo ID requirement, as long as everyone gets one.
PikachuTrainer · 26-30, M
@SW-User And everyone should get one on their own prerogative. It is upto the state (whether that be France, Germany or the UK) to make sure those with the legal right are able to vote, while those that do not cannot. It also helps prevent people from voting twice.

@SW-User OK I agree in fact let's set up for the dmv to send a group to high school a few times a year so we make sure that by 15 or 16 every teen has a state issued id. If they want a license though still have to go to the dmv office

@PikachuTrainer Look, you can have your id requirement. But many places in the U.S. are undeveloped and do not have the infrastructure to give out that many licenses, especially for the poor. Who may or may not be able to afford the fees. So to aid with that problem, we could either upgrade government offices or provide everyone with licenses. I am open to having a requirement and giving everyone a license, because infrastructure will never be upgraded by the government.

@SW-User and on that day any town citizen can go to the school

@SW-User I'm not at all talking about the US but the UK, and why should the Government provide everyone with an ID when an ID costs money? Sure make it cheap enough for the poorest of citizens to get one, but it should remain their prerogative, and not the governments, on them getting an ID.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Mountainlady16 Not a bad compromise, that would probably be all right with most people on all sides of the fence.

Also, make sure it never expires, and is easily recovered if lost.

Thing is, you’ll lose a lot of proponents for these laws - because it’s not the immigrants they’re trying to prevent from voting - they’re just trying to lower the turnout for the other side.

@PikachuTrainer the UK is different. I know that in the U.S. waiting times and office scarcity may be a but too much. But I dont know about the UK. I dont know about your system m8. Your offices might be better funded, thus enabling more ppl to get licenses. Maybe not. idk. Still, giving everyone a license will require at least some citizen initiative as the id will need their picture.

[@QuixoticSoul in TN after a certain age it doesn't my grandma is in her 70s when she last updated her id it no longer expired and she's not required to have a photo on it atrangely but she opted to still have one
SW-User
@QuixoticSoul idk about the no expiration date, as im sure they will need to be upgraded and updated at some point. But people shouldn't be made to jump over red tape to get them. Especially the poor and the handicapped.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@SW-User Yeah, the last time I had to visit a DMV in person it was a four hour trip. Fucking amazing really - and nearest appointments are a month out.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@QuixoticSoul yeah my local dmv isn't that way but when my husband and I changed our licenses to TN when we lived with my grandparents for a year a few years ago it was a 3 HR wait
SW-User
@QuixoticSoul @Mountainlady16 I think the main problem is that ththe dmv's are in need of an upgrade Lol
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@SW-User and in the case of Chattanooga more than 1 for a
