why did obama receive the nobel peace prize?

https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/peace/2009/press-release/

They don't talk about anything he's specifically done. I can't find anything that he's done online so here I am asking anyone who's reading, "How did obama 'strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples'? "
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world’s leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama’s appeal that “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.”

Trump has already undone most of this.

Oh, wait, you already posted the link.

I copied the Nobel Committee's press release, as is. I don't get your comment. Perhaps you can be clear. If by reaching out to the Muslims world, you mean telling the Muslim world, that we mean them no harm, then what's the harm in doing so?

@gregloa That's great. Notice that you got this from Wikipedia, when I specifically copied the actual press release, in October 2009, announcing their selection. Here it is, perhaps you will realize this time, the difference between Wikipedia and the ACTUAL Nobel Committee Press Release:

@Northwest perhaps you will realize the world was largely surprised when Obama was awarded the noble peace prize. The prize was preemptive for a leader who had ambitious goals for scaling down America’s military. Allowing radical Islam free range of Iraq as a result. Not to mention the absurd job of funding Iran’s nuclear programs and allowing Russia and China free trade with North Korea Six years later even Obama’s supporters questioned whether the award was deserved. The director of the noble institute wrote awarding the prize to Obama was only partially correct as many of his supporters thought it was a mistake. As such It quickly became clear that Obama wouldn’t be able to achieve what the committee had hoped of him. The entire world new he didn’t deserve it. It was based on what the committee hoped he might do. The high and mighty Norwegian committee, what a JOKE!
Obama’s drone program was regularly criticized for lack of transparency and accountability considering incomplete intelligence meant officials were often unsure about who would DIE! Most individuals KILLED were not on the kill list and the government doesn’t know their names. So what was Obama?

Surprised, but largely favorable. It is the Nobel Prize, BTW.
The prize was preemptive for a leader who had ambitious goals for scaling down America’s military.
Not scaling down America's military, but scaling down our invasions of other countries. There is a difference. If you recall, Trump ran on a campaign of getting us out of the world's hot spots, and stop spending money on other countries wars. You did not notice when you voted for him?
Allowing radical Islam free range of Iraq as a result.
What would you propose the solution should have been? participate in the program, launched by the GCCC, and Turkey to arm "moderate" Islamic groups? Or, send another 500,000 troops so we can "win" the battle we already "won"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BIW6qyrdu4

The only smart move, would have been not to invade Iraq. Once that was done, it was game over.
Not to mention the absurd job of funding Iran’s nuclear programs
I'm sure you believe you're right, but I am SMH here.
and allowing Russia and China free trade with North Korea
The US has had sanctions against N. Korea, since 1950. The sanctions that exist today, are the same as they were under President Obama. In 2017, the sanctions were strengthened through additional financial sanctions.
Six years later even Obama’s supporters questioned whether the award was deserved. The director of the noble institute wrote awarding the prize to Obama was only partially correct as many of his supporters thought it was a mistake.
Yes, Geir Lundestad, the Secretary of the Nobel committee, said that he was disappointed that Obama could not end all the wars the US was involved in, and that the Prize, did not help him domestically. Not sure Lundetead, had a clear understanding, that Obama's virulent opposing, had anything to do with peace. It was racism, pure and simply.
As such It quickly became clear that Obama wouldn’t be able to achieve what the committee had hoped of him. The entire world new he didn’t deserve it. It was based on what the committee hoped he might do. The high and mighty Norwegian committee, what a JOKE!

This is laughable, not because I support the random use of drone programs, but coming form you, a Trump supporter.
So what was Obama?
Obama was one of the best Presidents we ever had. He stepped up, when no one else wanted the job, in the middle of our worst economic crisis. When he left, the economy was on the right track. That's all there is to it.

@gregloa I agree. I was discussing about sanctions on Iran and he gives me a history lesson on the middle east.
Northwest · M
@gregloa So, then you have nothing as a response. Predictable.

It's not that difficult to school you about the Middle East.
