why did obama receive the nobel peace prize?

https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/peace/2009/press-release/

They don't talk about anything he's specifically done. I can't find anything that he's done online so here I am asking anyone who's reading, "How did obama 'strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples'? "

Mostly because he wasn't Bush. Most Americans don't realise how disliked Bush was internationally.
Obama rowed back on things like Guantanamo Bay and actually understood America has responsibility on climate change.
Of course, in 2018 Bush doesn't look so bad all of a sudden.

@DarkMoon You mean Obama releasing terrorists from Gitmo. who went back to killing Americans?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@GunSmoke9 People like to bring this out, but 90% of those who re-engaged (it were suspected to) were released by the Bush admin. And that was a minority of those that got set free anyhow - a good number of people in gitmo ended up there by mistake.

Read QuixoticSoul's comment, you may learn something.

@Northwest I think it was wrong for both presidents to release those that might be a threat to us. So what should I learn?

@GunSmoke9 What you should learn, is that we're in the 21st century, and the Tower of London is no longer in existence. We can't detain people for no reason, oh and it's not a partisan issue, and that you're wrong, again.

@Northwest If they are caught on the battlefield they can be held. You need work on your sarcasm. I wasted enough time talking to you.

@GunSmoke9 Cool. So, neither us, not the Vietnamese, should have released POWs. Sound thinking.
