Do you support this?

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would allow officials to disqualify immigrants’ applications based on receipt of federal assistance such as food stamps, Section 8 housing vouchers or Medicare and Medicaid drug subsidies.

Their applications for what? US Citizenship?
SW-User
Yes

@SW-User I would support a law like that. I would garnish the wages of their sponsors.

I have a friend whose brother married an Asian woman. But before she could come to the US, he had to sign some papers guaranteeing to support her. I feel that if she has to rely on government benefits, he should reimburse the government.

@SimplyTracie The thing is that the ones who use food stamps etc probably came illegally.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@cherokeepatti We should enforce existing laws and not make new ones that aren’t enforceable.

But Americans are humane beings and we aren’t gonna let anyone starve regardless of their status.

It is what it is, as my friend always tells me.

@SimplyTracie Most of them came to get free stuff. I've worked all my life to get food, shelter and medical care but someone can come here illegally and sign up for what I worked hard to get and then my tax dollars helps pay for it. Nothing right about that.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@cherokeepatti It may not be right but I don’t want to watch a person starve either.

That’s what’s so grand about our country. We help those in need. My grandma always said, it returns to us ten-fold.

In the meantime, enforce the existing laws. If Trump cannot find a way to do that - step aside.

@cherokeepatti I had a talk with several Somali immigrants. They came from wealthy families but they were given the impression that everything was free here. They just had to show up to claim it.

@hippyjoe1955 That’s in Canada tho
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Yes. In their mind Canada and the US were basically one country. Once they got here they were surprised that they were in Canada and not the US and that they actually had to work for a living. Something they never did at home in Somalia.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 Did you school these Somalians? I think it’s great that you even had a conversation with immigrants from Somalia. You must have gotta quite an education.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie No they were grown men looking for work. I help homeless people find work and they thought I could help them too. I found them some temporary work but several had dates with the court system so they couldn't get full time work. One of them did some jail time for using a handgun. The handgun was illegal and he was shooting at another human being so....
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 That’s good that they’re willing to work.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@SimplyTracie Of course they are great guys. One of them went to jail for a year or so. One went on to be medic a third moved back to Somalia and the fourth moved to the US.
