Imagine this: Justice Thomas retires in the next couple of months and a few months after that RBG retires

I don’t wish anything bad for either but by my count thst will result in President Trump naming four Justices. Ignoring FDR’s Court packing scheme and the original SCOTUS, will that be the most ever by one President?

I think you're dreaming, though anything is possible. Four wouldn't even be close to the record. Washington appointed the first six justices (the Court was limited to six at the time) and had four more appointments to fill vacancies, so he had 10 overall. FDR's attempt to pack the court with up to six additional justices would have resulted in 15, up from the current 9, but it never gained legislative traction. FDR did get 9 appointments though in his three full and one partial terms.

President Taft had 6 confirmations. Eisenhower had 5. Reagan, Nixon, Truman and Harding all had four, so for Trump to get four wouldn't be unprecedented in recent history.

Good research. I had done none. I did exclude the FDR Court packing and the initial SCOTUS (Washington). Ike and tricky Dick had some bad selections. @windinhishair
