Anyone else not impressed with Australian politics?

With yet another farcical situation occurring in Australian politics, people around the world must look at Australia and wonder what on earth our politicians are doing! There seems to be a leadership spill way too often!

Ah! if only we did have a President. In fact we are a constitutional monarchy, and our Head of State is the Queen of Australia, Queen Elizabeth II. The fact she resides in the UK, and is too elderly to travel, does complicate the matter somewhat. Technically she appoints a Governor General to act on her behalf. At least, since 7 May 1965, this has been an Australian. Up till then it was a cavalcade of Britain's brightest and best, the last being the amazing William Philip Sidney, Viscount De L'Isle and Dudley, VC, KG, GCMG, GCVO, KStJ, PC of Penshurt Place, Kent. You can't get much more noble, brave, aristocratic and unAustralian than that.

There was a referendum on becoming a Republic with a President as head of state in 1999, but 55% of Australians voted against it. So it remains Gawd bless 'er majesty.
