New Poll Released: Nearly Half of Republicans Want to Scrap the First Amendment. Seriously?
Forty-three percent of Republicans think President Trump “should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” while only 36 percent disagreed with the statement, according to an Ipsos poll released Tuesday.

A large number of Republicans polled also took issue with the media in general, with 48 percent agreeing that the news media is “the enemy of the American people.” Seventy-nine percent said mainstream media outlets treat Trump “unfairly.”
The pollsters didn't ask whether the respondents wanted "bad" reporters shot or just jailed.
The large majority of Americans, 85%, agree that the “Freedom of the press is essential for American democracy.”
yet...
A quarter of Americans (26%) saying they agree “the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” including a plurality of Republicans (43%).
So, 85% say the First Amendment is essential for American democracy, but 26% want to scrap it.

Yeah, I know. Adds up to 111%. 😂

@beckyromero That just means that 11% of them are trusting the government to only shut down the bad ones. A level of trust that many would shudder to think of giving a government. At least many in our culture.

No, it means they haven't read the First Amendment. Or if they have, they don't understand it.

@beckyromero On second thought, ignorance of the first amendment is the more likely reason.
