The destruction begins...

The Trump administration has proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA), a law credited with keeping hundreds of species from going extinct.

The change would eliminate automatic protections for threatened plant and animal species, and make it easier for species to be removed from the list.

Wildlife conservation groups say the proposed change could have disastrous lasting effects on at-risk species.

What would they know eh?

The proposed change is the latest in a series of White House efforts to remove environmental regulations designed to protect vulnerable species and their habitats, as well as leave untouched some of America's most wild places.

Shameful.馃槥

sure is a lot of "could" in this, they are pushing fear

Center for Biological Diversity said "these proposals would slam a wrecking ball into the most crucial protections for our most endangered wildlife". "If these regulations had been in place in the 1970s, the bald eagle and the grey whale would be extinct today."
Look at that, not a single "could".

@QuixoticSoul oh but see that speculation on past events.

If you think they aren't selling fear then just say so.

So you're okay with waiting to find out when a species is extinct before you decide it's a bad idea?

Fun fact: If this legislation hadn't been in place in 1994 the American bald eagle would be extinct..

@HerKing I don't think it really matters for a species to go extinct but pretend I did, you get to keep the ESA. It took eight years to remove the bald eagle from the list once it recovered. The list also had multiple species that did not belong, they even had extinct species. Think about that, we were protecting dead animals. What a waste of resources.

And the precious eagle was actually saved by the ddt ban which came a year before the ESA so it's reasonable to get them mixed up in responsibility. Eagles were already protected under the bald and golden eagle protection act and it was ddt that got them despite their protected status.

What does that even mean? You're okay with species going extinct so that you won't foot the minuscule (comparatively) bill to protect those endangered species?

Presumably you're adding to any petition to make Trump cut back on the cost of his weekend golfing jaunts he said he'd never have time for?
Jackaloftheazuresand26-30, M
@HerKing I'm okay with species going extinct because of a universal belief, this planet is doomed to destruction one day and what we have saved will not matter when we restart on another planet and that's if we even get that far.

Don't change the subject. I'm not happy about any unnecessary spending. The fact is I don't participate in government at all because it's a big show, so I'm not even pushing representatives to back Trump on this either. I speak my thoughts to the public so they will hopefully stop spreading stories like this.
