Damn! - that much for only a plane ?....those painters are on a good wage !

Glad I didn't hire them to paint my house !
@BoobooSnafu Well, but, they're really good painters
😆@Mamapolo2016 🤓They Flippin' wanna be ! - but seriously - it's white ! I mean how difficult is that ! 😁
@BoobooSnafu It's not a paint job for a plane. It's two new planes which will be painted red, white and blue (so the paint thing wasn't entirely a lie). And our President, so respectfully referred to as the 'big buffoon' will probably never travel in them. Other than that, the post was gospel.
@Mamapolo2016 What do you mean "the post was gospel"...?
@BoobooSnafu Other than ... um..,,errors, it was true. Except for the parts that weren't.
@Mamapolo2016 Thanks for making that so clear............I think !😕

😁
@BoobooSnafu $3.9 billion was apparently accurate for the price of the two planes although I think this was a renegotiated deal President Obama (whose office and person are also deserving of respect) had pre-approved or something. The first deal was $3 billion for one plane but I guess President Trump talked them into a kind of buy one get the second for $2.1 billion off sticker price.

And they will be painted red-white-and-blue, so paint, while not the WHOLE story by a long chalk IS part of the story.

Any better?
@Mamapolo2016 Yup👍. It's still a con job though.....paint aint that expensive !!!
@BoobooSnafu I don't know this to be true but I suspect whe you buy a plane for a couple billion dollars they probably throw in the floor mats, tires and paint job.
@Mamapolo2016 😂- bargin !
@BoobooSnafu They probably give you a decent price on your Presidential plane trade-in, too
@Mamapolo2016😆 🤣

@Mamapolo2016 The government does not order a single AF1 plane, they always order two planes.

When Trump was elected, his immediate priority, was to make noise, so he was outraged at the AF1 order, and tweeted that $4B is a ripoff. Maybe we should cancel the order, he tweeted.

The deal had not finalized, at that point, and the $4B figure was a target.

Boeing, has decades of experience working with, and selling planes to, despots. So, their PR/marketing machine spun into action. Instead of confronting him, they rolled out the red carpet, declaring their patriotism, and promising the President a great deal.

Several months later, the deal is as follows:

1. Boeing will not be building new planes, they will instead re-purpose a couple of planes, being prepared for a Russian (yes, this is not a typo) airline that went bankrupt, to reduce costs. Russian and Bankrupt are two terms Trump is very familiar with.

2. Propose a final price of $3.9

3. Paint the planes red, white and blue. Note that the color scheme does not add any cost, because a complete paint job, was already part of the deal. So, they'll just go to the Home Depot, same freeway exit in Everett, as the Boeing Plant that produces the 747s, and put up a different color. Real operational savings could have been realized, by reducing the surface to be painted (less weight to fly).

Note that Trump never mentions item #1, and the final deal, is exactly the same as the original one, except for the savings to Boeing by going with already ordered planes.

Tempest in a teapot.

Assuming all that is true and I have no reason to believe it is not, I be,Ive thst you or I and several other users would have been able to negotiate Boeing down to say $3.5B on the original superior aircraft. This bears review and revision. @ImDone

The whole thing. Every point you raise. The two existing planes need to be replaced and border on obsolescence however the “new” plan as you outline it sucks (I AGREE WITH YOU) @ImDone

You and I could negotiate two brand new top of the line planes for 3.5B max. @ImDone
