Will the real England please stand up?

Southgate's football team or Brexit Britain?

That England's World Cup adventure is happening at exactly the same time as the Brexit clusterfudge is surely the mother of all ironies. I do not know Gareth Southgate's politics but he just looks like liberal remain voter. I could be wrong and I am basing this off little but I certainly can't imagine him down the Dog and Duck pub reading the Daily Express and moaning about foreigners stealing our jobs. He leads a multi-racial team of young working-class men who are well organised, play entertaining attacking football and represent Britain well on the global stage. The man who was once a hate figure for missing a penalty is now a leading fashion icon and has actually impressed the world sporting public with his urbane intelligence and openness to new ideas.

Then we have the Tory Government. And we have Brexit. Here we have a team of privately educated middle-aged white men who are arguing with each other because the crazy belligerent thing we signed up to is not quite crazy and belligerent enough. Having conned the public with known lies about phantom NHS funding, exaggerated immigration stats and nostalgic promises of a lost Britain that they would never even support; they have turned on each other and torpedoed their own Brexit process.

Britain's chief negotiator resigns, Europe sticks its head in its hands and nobody has a clue what is happening. Our Prime Minister might quit because she is the only one in the room who has been forced to realise that telling johnny foreigner to stick it does not work during a complex negotiation process with someone who is five time bigger than you. Michael Gove famously said that this country has had enough of experts and the Tory Government clearly have no problem at all with that part of their mantra.

I've been commenting more on football than on politics recently. TBH I think I'll stick to that. 🤣

Should Corbyn cut her some slack? He was saying today, that she cannot be expected to negotiate with 28 different countries, when she can't maintain order within her own government.

BRINO (Brexit In Name Only), which is what the ministers who resigned used to refer to May. I would say that they voters should have realized, what she realized, before they voted, but then again, we have "Who knew healthcare was so complicated" Trump for President.

@Burnley123 It's amazing Graham has yet to find the "right girl" :-)

@Northwest Its also true of several Tory MPs. 😂

@Burnley123 The hypocrisy is stunning :-)

Theresa May is a London worshiper. She only listens to London who benifit the most from the eu. The north take it up the ass and they wanted out. Out means out not her version.

@Burnley123 I am sorry if I seem aggressive but I feel for these people. The Uk is reliance on the eu is crushing but none the less people have spoken and democracy isn’t the just the right to speak it is also the right to be hear. The majority have spoken and deserve to be heard.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Sadwithasmile You do deserve to be heard and so does everyone. We disagree but all the best to you.

@Burnley123 luckily enough I didn’t vote 😂

I don't have much to say, just that this is a great post and "It's funny because it's not me". Although good luck against Croatia! You poor bastards need some joy at this point.

For us in the Colonies, may I ask you to dumb down WTF is happening? We aren't used to paying attention to anyone else.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User It's not a dumb question. Nobody has a clue what is happening, least of all our Government.

Burnley I have seen some of the projects that they have wasted money on and there new buildings for them
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Burnley what about the billions this country give to foreign aid to help the poor ,
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Nyloncapes I agree with foreign aid to help the poor. Most of our foreign aid goes to countries for the political reasons, including enabling dodgy regimes to buy weapons and most of it is not through the EU anyway.
Southgate for PM

What do you mean by "you"?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M

But it will have been 1967 when they beat the reigning (and cheating) world champions before anyone else did. Making them technically world champions. Not to mention a team of Scots winning a certain club trophy that year.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
I will stick with the Croatian flag for the final.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Nyloncapes Yes but the EU distributes it to the poorest areas. do you think for a second that the Conservative Government have any desire to do that?
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Croatia will be playing on Saturday in the 3rd and 4th play of
