Because being free is more important than anything else.
@katielass yeh no doubt with that... but some sort of regulations should be made to control these people specifically in financial matters as this money belongs to civilians which they cleverly steals away. Though these people are the ones who make and pass regulations and resolutions in parliaments

@scottamadore2 I agree. However, I would point out that we do have the power to get rid of every last one of them. It's in our power to do so but it seems, according to the polls, that most people think their own senators and rep are the only ones who are ok, that it's the rest of them who are the problem. How can a people exercise their power with that mentality. We get the government we deserve. Sad but true. Still, it beats being dictated to.
@katielass well said .... some separate body should be there which no where comes under power to these politicians .... which should have authority to verify them at what so ever level

@katielass term limits would help
@eli1601 yes that could really work at least we will not have to suffer for complete 3-5 years

@eli1601 Well, correct me if I'm missing something or you think I'm wrong. I've thought long and hard about term limits. I definitely see the problem with people serving 20-30 or more years. They become so entrenched that they lost touch with the people. And they become corrupt. But, and maybe I've just gotten too cynical, but if they were limited to 2 terms what's to stop them from becoming corrupt and doing what they can to enrich themselves in the short amount of time they have. It's not like they'd be risking a job they hoped to keep for 30 years. Does that make sense?

@katielass You could be right, who knows, but I think the less time these people spend in Washington, the better for all of us.

In fact, with all the time they take off, it's really a part time job. Let's base their pay and benefits on how much time they actually spend "working"

@eli1601 All considered, I'm willing to try term limits. But nothing is going to get us where we really want to be unless and until enough people understand that we are their bosses, we have the power and they need to do as we say. Or they don't have a job. We need to start recalling them at the first opportunity they break their word. I'm not talking about trying and failing. They can't control how others vote but if we send them to vote on X issue and they vote the wrong way we need to recall them and replace them with someone who is not insubordinate.
@katielass I agree on that Katie... and here I see an option, what if der is a re-election in b/w term if he is good enough for remaining tenure ...
say for eg he has 5 years but after 2 and half years ....civilians will have right to choose if he is good enough to pursue remaining period or not ?
