Do u believe that White privilege actually exists ? 💡

For example. If an officer stops a person of color they are 3 times more likely to be harassed or shot by a cop. Or discriminated against. Or charged and given a higher life sentence for the same offense. You've seen how race has become an issue over the past few years especially in the US. Do you believe that white privilege exists.

Oh, yes. It does. Even here! Not nearly as bad, but it's true.

And then, because it is known to happen, when a black man gets stopped anywhere because, it is usually is a man and it usually is a black one, the guy is sure the cop is going to give him a hard time, there's an attitude of "WTF NOW?" And there off to the races. The cop get offended and so makes assumptions about the person's guilt, immediately, and becomes extra aggressive, and from there, it escalates. Even if the black man doesn't say anything, but gets an aggrieved look, exactly the same look, I might get, if I were stopped for any reason, because he's black, and male, he will be presumed to have a guilty reason.

However, it's not just black men that piss the cops off when they get angry at being confronted. They really hate getting dirty looks. And in truth, it's really hard not to give cops a dirty look when you get stopped, no matter your gender or the colour of your skin. In general, cops have a dirty job, and even if they go into the profession for the right reasons, it's not long before they become jaded and frustrated.

It truly is a vicious cycle. Cops expect the worst from certain demographics, and therefore behave accordingly, and because cops behave more aggressively with those demographics, they react accordingly.

Please, note. I'm not talking for anyone els here. These are not statistics I'm quoting, nor am I repeating things I've read, or heard. This is my own personal opinion, based on personal observation and talking to victims of police prejudice.

And I'm talking about my own small corner of Canada; nowhere else. You may disagree, and I won't argue, as I haven't experienced anything, anywhere else.
