Why would Trump help Chinese phone company, ZTE?

ZTE make mobile phones. Billions of them !
Components for them are/were made in the U.S.
Trump put a ban on U.S. parts being exported because ZTE was exporting phones to Iran.
The U.S. has a total trade ban on Iran and couldn't have the Iranians making political capital by saying they had phones with U.S. quality parts rather than the sketchy Chinese parts they would have used as an alternative.
The U.S and China are at loggerheads over trade bans and sky high import tariffs in each direction.
But since China has more potential capital available than U.S. or Europe, doesn't make a lot if sense pissing the Chinese off it's likely to ultimately cost U.S. jobs.
I suspect this might be the reason for the change of heart !

Obama knew that that's why he couldn't create new jobs during his tenure.
George W. is largely responsible since instead of enacting fiscal policy that could have softened the blow of the current slowdown. He wanted to be a 'War President' and so spent billions on Iraq that the country just didnt have !

@SimplyTracie Which is why Trump gave a tax cut to the richest. In the belief that it is they who have the power to hire more folk; buy more American; invest in the country etc.
