Trump should get part credit for it, but only part, and certainly not a Nobel. If you read more than what Trump says, it's obvious the main reason Kim, if he actually does go through with this whole peace thing, is bargaining is that China more or less cut him off from trade. Yes, sanctions that the U.S. put on North Korea helped, but it was not the main reason.

@frequentlyme And who put pressure on China to cut off trade? Right, Trump.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@GunSmoke9 That's about as ludicrous a statement as I've heard in a long time. China did it because they didn't want a nuclear threat from an unhinged madman on their border.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Are you referring to the Korean unhinged madman or the American one?@frequentlyme
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@frequentlyme When North Korea was building nukes, where was China? When North Korea was testing rockets, threatening us and our allies, where was China? Believe what you want but it was Trump putting pressure on China to step up action on N.K. There is also the possibility that Kim is afraid of Trump. But you are a Trump hater, who won't give him credit for anything.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@GunSmoke9 I am giving Trump partial credit; but I also know the tipping point was when China nearly cut off all trade with North Korea, and the economic impact that had just when Kim and his idiots destroyed the test site which if China kept up the sanctions they put on, Kim couldn't afford to rebuild. Try reading something more than whatever you are reading. Nothing happens in a vacuum, and Trump alone didn't cause Kim to come to the table. You are right about oen thing though, I do detest Trump and everything he stands for.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@frequentlyme Why did China cut off trade? Would they have done that without Trump pushing the issue? Did I ever say it was Trump alone? Trump talked tough and the threats, missile testing stopped. Nothing to do with Trump, right?
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@GunSmoke9 China cut off trade because they didn't want a nuclear North Korea. End of story. I don't know how many times I ahve to say this, but let me say this one final time. Trump is partially responsible for getting Kim to the bargaining table. He deserves, and I give him credit for that. It is not Nobel Prize worthy, no more so than any player in getting Kim to back off.

@frequentlyme China didn't seem to mind before. Let me say this again, it was Trump putting pressure on China to put pressure on North Korea. Your hatred for Trump won't permit you to see things with an open mind. Did Obama deserve the Nobel peace prize?
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
The criteria for nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize is: "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". Trump is not qualified, and in fact, has disqualified himself by his America first agenda, pulling out of a nuclear treaty, and on and on. End of story. I'm not even going to go into why or how or did he (President Obama) deserve the prize. It has nothing to do with the conversation.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@frequentlyme You're hatred is showing again. You brought up the Nobel peace prize, or did you forget. Of course you know Obama did not deserve it, but gutless to say so.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@GunSmoke9 Selective reasoning is it? Maybe you should go back and read the original post.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@frequentlyme No it isn't. You can't admit that China went after North Korea because Trump started to pressure China. Again why didn't China go after N.K years ago?
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@GunSmoke9 china didn't go after NK because there was no need. NK until recently was a nothing, a big zero to anyone but South Korea, and by extension, because we protected South Korea, the United States. It was a drain on us militarily and economically, and so China was happy to let it be. Since the ratcheting up of tensions, them (NK) becoming more of a nuclear power, and the implications to China, they levied sanctions. I'm sure there were other reasons, reasons we may never know, but that's a pretty good summary of major reasons.

You saying President Obama did not deserve the Nobel is as meaningless a most of what you have said. No meaning whatsoever. Those who award it did say:

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.
Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.
Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.
For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

@frequentlyme What I have to say is only meaningless to those with a closed mind. Obama got the Nobel peace prize for doing Nothing, Nothing. He got for what he might do. When they gave him the award what did he accomplished at that point? Right, nothing. Later, he made Iran more of a threat. Billions of dollars to a terrorist state. Think the committee wants their prize back. I do. Trump done for for peace in a year than your hero, Obama did in eight years. By the way should the Yankees be awarded the world series championship now because some think they will win it? Or should they actually win it before they get the prize? I tried to make the question easy for you. Still might be over your head.
