As much as I'd like to blame Trump, the president doesn't really affect fuel prices. More importantly, as long as we dependent on oil, the price per barrel isn't doesn't really matter; we're still going to fill out tanks.

@Zonuss where is a global market in which America is a big consumer but a small supplier. We consume 20% of the world's oil, but hold only 2% reserves. In essence, and in economic parlance, we are price takers. We pay what other nations demand. We are just too small a country to matter too much. Even if domestic drilling increased, the oil would be sold to the highest bidders.
As for Democrats versus Republicans, gas was outlandish under Carter and also went up under GW Bush, though there are many formulas for coming up with gas trends.
