Who else is starting to think this Donald Trump fella might not be on the up and up?

James Comey: "Mr. President, the American people will hear my story very soon. And they can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not."

Color me optimistic but I think we're finally approaching The End. Before we get there, it will unfortunately get worse. We've been tested as individuals, as communities, as a country. We won’t let a degenerate traitorous criminal destroy our country. We won’t forget the GOP's embrace of amorality and unlawfulness. We won’t forget that the GOP chose Russia over the U.S.. Our kids will never forget and their kids will never forget. The GOP will be associated with a conspiracy to overthrow our democracy and they will be dumped on the scrap heap of history and viewed with disdain for decades to come. My father, who is Republican, is furious that the GOP allowed a despot and his extremists to capture what was once a proud party.

I think it's a long and winding road. Trump's house of lies does seem to have foundational problems, but so far, the noise from Republicans is still pretty quiet, and if Trump wants to finish his term, all he probably has to do is not fire Mueller and keep chipping away at facts, throwing out lies, and manufacturing culture war battles and other distractions. It probably wouldn't help his reelection, but he can probably avoid impeachment if he doesn't step over the line.

As far as the backlash against Republican collaborators goes, I think your right, that there will be a backlash, but I'm not sure it's too late for the GOP. They basically handed it over to Trump at the Convention, but they might still be able to take it back in the long run if they run an opposition candidate at their convention and, assuming he loses, make the right call and say vote for anyone but Trump, even the Democrat.

If they don't, and if they continue to support Trump and his lies, yeah, the GOP will end, and get crushed and replaced.

@MistyCee Why aren't the GOP speaking up? Party over ethics? I don't get it. Admit that the wrong man was voted into office. Do something about it and move on to finding the right person for the job. I don't care whether it's a Democrat or a Republican. But get the right person in there. It's been so disheartening to see Republicans sit back and put the burden for active defense of our democratic institutions and values onto Democrats and Independents. Is this not their Constitution too?
@Odette It's easy to bash Republicans for not standing up to Trump, but remember, he's got all the power and if he uses it against any one of them, they'll be cast be out and be treated like a traitor and "enemy of the people.". What good can they do then?

Some are pushing back, gently, like Graham and Gowdy, and others, like Paul are still in the race, but there's a reason Trump got the nomination and won.

Republicans will stand up to him, if and when, it's politically possible to do so without committing political suicide, and, btw, opening up a seat for a Trump loyalist.

@MistyCee I'm not so sure, MistyCee. This level of complicity is more than just partisan politics. There's some illegal shady treasonous stuff going on behind Republican closed doors. Many in the GOP are complicit due to circular blackmail for taking Russian money. Mueller has the evidence from foreign banks and from foreign intel services who are our allies. It will eventually come out. The GOP who are not corrupt really need to come forward and speak out against this treasonous president.
@Odette I agree with you that they should, but I don't see it happening in numbers until Trump does something like fire Comey.

@MistyCee Mueller?
@Odette oops, Mueller. Thanks
