Really, because this is not an opinion that the Fed Chairman (Powell) shares. His response was somewhat diplomatic, but puzzled.

According to him, the best way to deal with disputes, is not through starting trade wars.

@Northwest Sadly, having the attention span of a goldfish is not going to be helpful here. So it wont be long before Trump gets so confused that he will start blaming the President..

Thr term “trade war” was added today by CNN and its ilk in the usual intent to instill panic. Some short term uncertainty is more than worth vastly superior long term trade deals. @Northwest

@jackjjackson Agreed.. Making it sound like a war on something is the modern way to identify your opposition to something, such as terrorism or drugs. The fact is the rest of the world will trade as it wishes,. America always had a bigger hand that it deserved, due to US$ being the currency of choice.. But your Beloved President has pi$$ed off enough people and industries and pulled out of trade deals to threaten that edge..The US is on that slippery slope like never before, in a time of slowing economic activity and overproduction and you just dumped your Ace.

@jackjjackson Try again. CNN did not say anything about a trade war. They reported on the "tarifs" the same way Fox did.

What happened, is that the DOW instantly dropped 500 points, and the financial press started talking about what's causing it, specifically the fear of a trade war. The trade war was flagged by Powell.

I don’t equate paying a premium on foreign good for no reason an “ace”. The ace is the use of actual fair trade policies. @whowasthatmaskedman

CNN was using thst term on January 25:

@jackjjackson You're going 6 weeks, back in time? Let's stick with today.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You said CNN didn’t come up with the trade war term on its own. It appears it did @Northwest
Northwest · M
@jackjjackson Context. It's what's about. Perhaps you also want to remind me that the GOP was against racism, and the Democrats were for slavery, so why bother check for time-sensitive context?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
That MAY be a bit of a stretch lol. In this case the context is the exact same issue involving the exact same parties within the last five weeks. @Northwest
Northwest · M
@jackjjackson Sure. News outlets can save themselves a wad by switching to 5-week news cycles. A higher resolution is really a waste.

BTW, the DOW drop ended up being 580 points. Closed 430 points down from the previous day, but 580 points down from where it was, right before Powell's comments.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I was addressing your comment that CNN didn’t say anything about “trade wars”. I provided you with their own material in order thet you would be no longer misguided regarding that particular nugget. Again your trusted CNN reported a 500 point drop which has already started to be corrected. @Northwest

@jackjjackson CNN reported on Hurricane Maria, Should anyone assume that Maria is stil a factor today?

I did not get the 500 number from CNN, I saw it on my own monitor, and I know exactly what I said. It was that the market instantly dropped 500 points. At the closing bell, it was a 430 points drop from the previous day, and the more relevant number: 580 from where it was prior to the Fed Chair comments.

US steel and aluminum company’s stocks’ price is up, all US companies’ that use steel and aluminum are down. This means that they expect prices to go up, and that will be passed on to US consumers, in the form of more expensive cars, appliances, etc.

But, I guess this would be what those Walmart bonuses were slated for.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
So me you’re insulting Walmart employees? Admittedly I prefer Target but seriously, what do Walmart employees ever do to you?@Northwest
Northwest · M
@jackjjackson Why would I be insulting Walmart employees? These folks are subjected to enough, having to wait on the Wall Mart customers.

They're getting tax cut induced bonuses, aren't they? or was that Target employees? They need to buy cars, right?

@jackjjackson Care to guess what Trump tweeted today?
Trade wars are good, and easy to win
You want to tell me again, how this is a CNN invention?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
CNN used the term first. @Northwest
