How could such a tragedy happen after the last time that Congress did absolutely nothing to prevent it ?

@RodionRomanovitch You know what's going on. One group blames guns, the other group blames the person holding the gun. I hate quoting ALCOA but, "There are no simple solutions, only intelligent alternatives." The extremists on both sides inflame the issue and there is never ending gridlock because the extremists are always the loudest screamers, and the 2nd amendment people see and hear a threat to their right to bear arms . Screams from the 'alt right' have those who want more common sense gun laws considering some kind of forced disarming of the general populace. The extremists bring out extremism in everyone.
I personally believe there needs to be stricter background checks, but there should also be open carry for those who pass those checks. That coach who used his body as a shield should have had a weapon. Unfortunately, the US is beyond the point of no return. School staff needs to be armed. Deacons need to be armed. Responsible citizens need to be armed.

@RodionRomanovitch That has crossed my mind. We are 'all' so disgusted with each other anyway, and there 'is' a population problem. All these people waving flags and pounding drums and screaming at each other would probably love to shoot the person they're screaming at.
