The services sector represents about 60% of el Salvador's economy. Not sure about Haiti, because the numbers are not accurate (I think). They can both use a boost from tourism, but not sure it will trickle down sufficiently, due to the corrupt governments in both countries.
Of course, in El Salvador, we (the US), bear the responsibility. It's a Reagan legacy. If the country is a shithole, then we made it what it is with the Regan era push to put a right win military junta in charge.
