Do you believe FDR or JFK could get a nomination given the state of the Democratic Party today? I grew up in a Democrat household and just have to say

Don't know. Could Theodore Roosevelt get the Republican nomination today?

@Rutterman he was bull moose

@MasterLee Before that, he was elected president as a Republican and served as vice president under Republican William McKinley. He challenged William Howard Taft (and Woodrow Wilson) as a third-party, "Bull Moose" candidate in 1912. He later returned to the Republican fold. TR was popular throughout his presidency and could have won another term as a Republican had he not voluntarily declined to run for re-election in 1908.
@Rutterman I think he could. He was non typical when it came to politics.I believe America in general is fed up with the bs.

@Peterbilt1955 I'm not so sure. The Republican Party has changed, just as the Democratic Party has changed. I think it would be great to have someone like TR in the White House again, but I don't know if he'd be welcome in either major party now.
Bingo...that's how Trump got elected.Neither party liked him and that is a huge part of his appeal.Hes not a politician.

@Rutterman no way...Teddy was a staunch believer in anti-trust actions and loved nature. Republicans now are monopolist and despise nature.

@SW-User Yes, he was ahead of his time and a true progressive. Seems to be at odds with where most Republicans are today. My only objection to TR is that he was too jingoistic.

@Rutterman for sure...such a young country and priming it for its future “role.”
