Can Muslims and secular or nonmuslim society coexist in peace?

Myamar, Europe, Africa, the Philippines, and the US to name a few seem to suggest that it is not. Regardless of how peaceful many religions, or sects of religions claim to be there appears to be a strong desire to wrestle control and be the dominant ideal of the"Truth".
